The wind is ice-cold. Max looks up, and sees how the sun is shining faintly through the clouds. He still thought this morning that it would be a beautiful day! He walks on, a little annoyed. Fortunately, the driving school is only a few hundred meters (approx. yards) away. He is already looking forward to tonight. Her name is Laura. They study at the same university, at the same faculty even. And both are in the first semester.
The semester has started in October, so about two months ago. Everything still feels very new. The living alone, the university, the many classmates – many more than the few classmates in his class during the Gymnasium (like AP High School)! – and Laura.
He met her last week during a lecture. Max has not found many friends yet, and therefore he simply sits down next to random classmates. Last week, he made a fluke. He sat down next to Laura. They got talking, and at the end of the lecture they had a date.
Max looks around. He walked past the driving school! He has to constantly think about Laura, and forgets the world around him. He runs back a few meters and walks in.
“Hello, Mr. Meier!”
“Hello, Max! How are you?” Mr. Meier, the owner of Driving School Meier and Max’s driving instructor, sits at the only office in the small classroom of the school.
“I am fine, thanks. I have the attestation of the vision test. And I don’t need any vision aid, I passed the test!”
Max gives the attestation to Mr. Meier.
“Awesome, thanks!”
“I have to go, I still have to do a lot today. See you soon!”
“Bye!”
Mr. Meier waves shortly. Max is already outside again.
The supermarket isn’t far anymore. What does he need for dinner? Laura told him last week that she loves Kalter Hund (hedgehog slice).
Max found a recipe online that looked very good. A video even shows how to make the recipe. Certainly, he can pull that off!
In the supermarket, he buys all ingredients he needs. Tea biscuits, coconut oil, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, vanilla sugar and eggs… There are also flowers! Beautiful roses! He’ll bring one for Laura.
On the way home he is already super excited. Will she like the sweet dish? Or even more important: will she really like him?

SOME WORDS TO KEEP IN MIND

genervt [adj.]

annoyed

Zum Glück… (das Glück)

Fortunately, …

sich freuen auf

to look forward to

ungefähr

approximately, about, roughly

einen Glückstreffer landen (der Glückstreffer)

to make a fluke, to strike lucky

mit jdm. ins Gespräch kommen (das Gespräch)

to get talking to sb., to get into a conversation with sb.

ständig [adv.]

constantly

super

awesome

Bis demnächst!

See you soon!

etw. gern mögen [z.
