You may have already thought that this castle looks like it belongs in a fairy tale, and that’s because it was Walt Disney’s inspiration for his kingdoms. King Ludwig II built this castle for his own getaway; however you can now visit it throughout the year for a cheap price: 12 Euros for adults and under 18s go free!

Berlin

There are many tourist attractions in Berlin: whether you are interested in politics, history, or its cultural scene. For a great view of Berlin visit the Bundestag dome, it’s completely free (don’t forget to book in advance though) and there’s a rooftop restaurant if you get hungry. Der Berliner Mauer (The Berlin Wall) is also a must, you can visit the East Side Gallery (also free and open all year round) which has artwork and graffiti painted on the wall.

Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest takes place in Munich once a year for sixteen days and is the biggest beer festival in the world. It boasts various rides, traditional Bavarian food stands and of course beer tents. The first Oktoberfest began in 1810 to celebrate the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig (later Ludwig I) and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. This year it will start on the 17th September till the 2nd of October. It has a great atmosphere and is worth a trip, especially if you’re a beer fan!

Garmisch Partenkirchen

This is a great place to go if you enjoy skiing, snowboarding or hiking. It’s located in Bavaria and is very close to Austria. I visited in the summer and went to Partnachklamm (Partnach Gorge). It offers amazing views as you walk on a narrow bridge along the side of the mountain, which is split open by the flowing river.

Lübeck

A city in the north of Germany, Lübeck is known because of its gothic architecture, marzipan and the Hafen (port). Two from four gates still remain around Lübeck, and a lot of the medieval architecture remains in the town. There are also many museums, a perfect visit if you’re interested in history and architecture.

Do you have any other favourite places in Germany?
