Last week, we went to the natural glory of the forests of the<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/german\/german-nationalparks-part-4-eifel\/\">Eifel<\/a>. <\/em>The week before, I discussed\u00a0Park\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/german\/german-nationalparks-part-3-muritz\/\">M\u00fcritz<\/a><\/em>, and before that\u00a0park\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/german\/german-nationalparks-part-2-berchtesgaden\/\">Berchtesgaden<\/a>, <\/em>and the\u00a0mysterious\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/german\/german-nationalparks-part-1-schwarzwald\/\">Schwarzwald<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0Today, we will travel to one of the central, and most well-known parks:\u00a0<em>Der Harz!<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<div style=\"width: 544px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"adjust-img-width\" href=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/9\/9d\/Karte_Nationalparks_Deutschland_high.png\/800px-Karte_Nationalparks_Deutschland_high.png\" aria-label=\"800px Karte Nationalparks Deutschland High\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"  alt=\"\" width=\"534\" height=\"712\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/9\/9d\/Karte_Nationalparks_Deutschland_high.png\/800px-Karte_Nationalparks_Deutschland_high.png\"><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The National Parks in Germany (Image by Lencer at Commons.wikimedia.org under license CC BY SA 3.0)<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalpark-harz.de\/en\/\">Der Nationalpark Harz<\/a><\/em><\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Harz<\/em>, including its\u00a0<em>Brocken<\/em>, was\u00a0part of the former German Democratic Republic (GDR) or\u00a0<em>DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik<\/em>) and from the 1960s until the 1990s it was closed off from tourists. This allowed nature to thrive here for all those decades. And after the\u00a0<em>Nationalpark Harz\u00a0<\/em>was established in the final days of the\u00a0<em>DDR<\/em>, this natural protection was even guaranteed and promoted. Later, the\u00a0<em>Nationalpark\u00a0<\/em><em>Harz\u00a0<\/em>was also expanded to other parts to become the\u00a0<em>Nationalpark\u00a0<\/em>it is now.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>What is special about the\u00a0<em>Nationalpark\u00a0<\/em><em>Harz<\/em>?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Because the <em>Harz\u00a0<\/em>was a\u00a0\u00a0<em>Sperrgebiet\u00a0<\/em>(restricted area) during the\u00a0<em>DDR\u00a0<\/em>time, the area around the\u00a0<em>Brocken\u00a0<\/em>became a real &#8220;Brockenurwald&#8221; (Brocken jungle). Talking about the\u00a0<em>Brocken<\/em>, it is the highest top in the\u00a0<em>Harz\u00a0<\/em>and Northern Germany, with its 1141 m (approx. 3750 ft). I remember, when I was small, that I went up there with my family. And it looked much like on this picture back then! The way up was icy and cold&#8230; At least on the way down we could use our sleighs!<\/p>\n<p>But the\u00a0<em>Brocken\u00a0<\/em>is not the only attraction of the park. There are old ore mines you can visit, many trails you can hike&#8230; But let images speak for itself! Und erholt sehen sie aus. Muss toll gewesen sein im Harz. Wie lange waren sie nochmal weg? Die haben sicher viel zu erz\u00e4hlen. Lassen bestimmt den Urlaub revue passieren.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Im Harz gibt es aber auch jede Menge zu sehen. Kultur pur. Eindrucksvolle Bauwerke, Mittelalter total, bunte Glasfenster und Sch\u00e4tze die funkeln und glitzern. Einfach magisch. \u00dcberall h\u00fcbsche Skulpturen, da f\u00fchlt man sich ja selbst wie ein F\u00fcrst.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Und der tolle Ausblick erst! Perfekt zum relaxen. Oh, Fotos haben sie auch gemacht! Kein Wunder bei der spektakul\u00e4ren Kulisse. Und dann noch traumhafte G\u00e4rten und Parkanlagen. Mal wieder so richtig sch\u00f6n flanieren.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Ist ja auch schon &#8216;ne Weile her,\u00a0<\/em><em>dass ich im Harz war. Habe ich nicht noch ein paar Urlaubstage? Vielleicht reiche ich die gleich am Montag ein<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">TRANSLATION<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Oh, there they are again! And they look recuperated. Must have been great in the\u00a0<em>Harz<\/em>. For how\u00a0long were they gone again?\u00a0They surely have a lot to tell. Certainly recalling the holiday.<\/p>\n<p>There surely is a lot to see in the\u00a0<em>Harz<\/em>. Pure culture. Impressive structures, flat-out medieval (lit.:\u00a0<em>Mittelalter total<\/em> = &#8220;Middle Ages absolutely&#8221;), colorful glass windows and treasures that sparkle and glisten. Simply magical. Ganz dynamisch und sportlich. Naja, sie war ja auch gerade mit ihrem Thomas im Harz. Die haben bestimmt &#8216;ne Menge erlebt, die zwei. Einfach mal Spa\u00df haben wollten sie. Da waren sie im Harz nat\u00fcrlich goldrichtig!\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Wahrscheinlich sind sie mit Karacho<\/em>\u00a0<em>die H\u00e4nge runtergebrettert.\u00a0<\/em><em>Mit\u00a0<\/em><em>Fahrtwind in den Haaren und konnten nicht mehr vor Lachen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Und als N\u00e4chstes dann irgend so&#8217;n Adrenalinkick. Das hat nat\u00fcrlich was. Den H\u00f6henrausch genie\u00dfen. Die Geschwindigkeit am ganzen K\u00f6rper sp\u00fcren. Und das alles vor dieser m\u00e4rchenhaften Kulisse.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Und wenn die Beiden mal abtauchen wollten, sind sie vermutlich an einen See gefahren. Haben den ganzen Tag da rum gehangen.\u00a0<\/em><em>Zwischendurch mal ein bisschen geplanscht. Und es sich \u00fcberhaupt richtig gut gehen lassen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Tja, immerhin hab&#8217; ich&#8217;s ja auch nicht weit bis zum Schwimmbad. Obwohl, so ein paar Tage raus&#8230; Eigentlich eine richtig gute Idee!\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">TRANSLATION<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Now look at Susanne. Totally dynamic and sporty. Well, she just was in the\u00a0<em>Harz\u00a0<\/em>with her Thomas after all. They have for sure experienced a lot, those two. They just wanted to have fun once. For that they were in the\u00a0<em>Harz\u00a0<\/em>of course spot-on! (lit.:\u00a0<em>goldrichtig\u00a0<\/em>= &#8220;golden right&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>Probably they rushed down at full tilt. With air stream in their hair and they couldn&#8217;t stop laughing (lit.:\u00a0<em>sie konnten nicht mehr vor Lachen\u00a0<\/em>= &#8220;they couldn&#8217;t anymore from laughing&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>And next some adrenaline kick. That\u00a0<em>is\u00a0<\/em>something, of course. Enjoy the\u00a0<em>H\u00f6henrausch\u00a0<\/em>(&#8220;high-altitude euphoria&#8221;). Feel the speed on the\u00a0whole body. And all that in front of this fairy tale-like backdrop.<\/p>\n<p>And when the two wanted to submerge, they probably drove to a lake. Have lingered around there the whole day. Paddling a bit now and then. And they have absolutely done themselves well anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Well, at least I am not far from the swimming pool myself. Der ist ja in Siebenmeilenstiefeln unterwegs. Strammer Schritt! Fit sieht er aus! Kommt wahrscheinlich gerade wieder aus dem Harz. Ist aber auch super da f\u00fcr Wanderv\u00f6gel.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Wahrscheinlich ist er morgens aufgewacht, hat die Morgenluft rein gelassen und erst mal den tollen Ausblick genossen. Statt Wecker schon vor dem Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck Weitsicht auf Berge, Wiesen und W\u00e4lder.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Und dann die vielen Moore. Mystik, so weit das Auge reicht. \u00dcberhaupt, Wasser ist da \u00fcberall: Wassrf\u00e4lle, Teiche, B\u00e4che\u00a0<\/em><em>&#8211; &#8216;ne feine Sache, gerad&#8217; wenn&#8217;s hei\u00df ist. Einfach zwischendurch mal erfrischen. Ob die da auch gepicknickt haben? Da gibt&#8217;s ja schon viele Stellen f\u00fcr entspannte Pausen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Und diese H\u00f6hlen, haben die Beiden sich da wohl reingewagt? Sollen ja etwas ganz besonderes sein. Und bestimmt hat er seine Holde\u00a0auf einen dieser bizarren Felsen geschleppt.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Aber hier im Park ist es ja auch ganz sch\u00f6n. Wobei, jetzt wo ich dr\u00fcber nachdenke, wo sind eigentlich meine Wanderstiefel geblieben?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">TRANSLATION<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Oh, Thomas.\u00a0<em>He\u00a0<\/em>is on his way in seven-league boots (meaning to walk very fast). Brisk pace! He looks fit! Probably just returned from the\u00a0<em>Harz<\/em>. After all, it&#8217;s super\u00a0there for hiking enthusiasts (lit.:\u00a0<em>Wanderv\u00f6gel\u00a0<\/em>= &#8220;hiking birds&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>Probably he woke up in the morning, let the morning air in and first enjoyed the great view. Instead an alarm already before breakfast foresight to mountains, meadows and forests.<\/p>\n<p>And then the many moors. Mysticism, as far as the eye can reach. Water is there anyway: waterfalls, ponds, creeks &#8211; a fine thing, especially when it&#8217;s hot. Just freshen up once in a while in between. Whether they also pick-nicked there? There surely are many places for relaxing breaks.<\/p>\n<p>And these caves, have they perhaps dared to enter them? Supposed to be something quite special after all. And for sure he dragged his fair (maid) onto one of these bizarre rocks.<\/p>\n<p>But here in the park it is also quite beautiful.
