Hallo! Last time on the blog I gave you all the vocabulary you need to navigate a German airport.<\/a> This time I\u2019ll give you vocabulary for things on the aeroplane itself, and some common phrases you might use and hear on a plane.<\/p>\n

Vocabulary: On the plane<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Take-off – die Abfahrt<\/p>\n

Landing \u2013 die Landung<\/p>\n

Runway \u2013 die Runway\/die Landebahn<\/p>\n

Seat belt \u2013 der Sitzgurt\/der Sicherheitsgurt<\/p>\n

Overhead compartment \u2013 das Gep\u00e4ckfach<\/p>\n

My luggage hasn\u2019t arrived \u2013 Mein Gep\u00e4ck ist nicht angekommen.<\/em><\/p>\n

Phrases for on the plane:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This is my seat \u2013 Das ist mein Sitzplatz.<\/em><\/p>\n

I am not feeling too well \u2013 Mir geht\u2019s nicht so gut.<\/em>
\nI feel ill \u2013 Ich f\u00fchle mich krank.<\/em><\/p>\n

When the food trolley comes round!<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Water\/Coke\/Coffee\/Tea\/Red wine, please
\nWasser\/Cola\/Kaffee\/Tee\/Rotwein, bitte<\/em><\/p>\n

Something vegetarian, please (If you have a choice!)

All of those typical \u2018travel phrases\u2019 you\u2019ll hear \u2013 in German! I\u2019ve also bolded some vocabulary as a bonus. \ud83d\ude09<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Please remove all ipads, laptop computers and other electronic devices<\/strong> from bags.

Please store all liquids<\/strong>, creams etc. in a clear, re-sealable bag.<\/strong>

I hope this post has been interesting and useful. Even though most airports will have these things in English, too, it’s great to learn some new German vocabulary, and having this new knowledge will ultimately make you feel more at ease when travelling. Focusing on the language in this way might even take your mind off the stress you often feel at an airport\/on a plane.<\/p>\n
