Frohe Weihnachten! Today, Santa Claus arrived in Leipzig. He drove in the station with his steam locomotive.

Many children already excitedly await him on the platform. They sit on daddy’s shoulders or hold mommy’s hand and wave at him. Some call him: Santa Claus, Santa Claus! Everybody wants to see him. He waves back from his locomotive.

Quickly, a short staircase is brought to him so he can disembark.

With his little helpers, the imps and elves, he takes pictures, so the news paper can also report about his arrival. This way, the children that stayed at home will also know that he is finally here!

His helpers hand out sweets, and everybody rejoices.

Santa Claus holds his gunnysack, which holds the presents for the children at Christmas. But for now, it’s first the letters of the children with their Christmas wishes. Some childrne even have their letter with them and give it directly to Santa Claus!

Last year, Santa Claus arrived with a normal train. It appears that his steam locomotive was broken then!

Merry Christmas! And may all your wishes come true!

SOME WORDS TO KEEP IN MIND

<colgroup>
<col width="261" />
<col width="251" /></colgroup>

das Weihnachten (n), (mostly without article)

Christmas

der Weihnachtsmann (m)

Santa Claus

der Nordpol (m)

North Pole

der Wichtel (m)

imp

der Elf (m)

elf

der Bahnhof (m)

train station

das Kind, die Kinder (n)

child, children

erwarten

to expect, to await

aufgeregt

excited

zuwinken (+ Dat.)

to wave at

so

this way, that…, then

endlich

finally, in the end

das Geschenk (n)

gift, present

verteilen

to hand out, distribute

die Süßigkeit (f)

sweet, candy, treat

Did you enjoy the story, and would you like to see more similar stories?
