There is a bizarre\u00a0Bewegung\u00a0<\/em>(movement) in Germany: The\u00a0Reichsb\u00fcrgerbewegung\u00a0<\/em>(Reich’s Citizens Movement). They recently came into the spotlight because a\u00a0Polizist\u00a0<\/em>(police officer) was shot. Who are these people? What do they stand for? And what do they want? Let’s find out!<\/p>\n

What is a\u00a0Reichsb\u00fcrger<\/em>?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A\u00a0Reichsb\u00fcrger\u00a0<\/em>is a German citizen that doesn’t recognize the German state. Some of them believe that Germany is a\u00a0Privatgesellschaft\u00a0<\/em>(private company), and that\u00a0Bundesrepublik Deutschland\u00a0<\/em>(the German Federal Republic) does not exist. And so its laws aren’t valid either! They call themselves Reichsb\u00fcrger<\/em>, because they believe that the\u00a0Grenzen\u00a0<\/em>(borders) of Germany in 1937, or 1914 depending on the group, are still valid today. Back then, Germany was a\u00a0Reich<\/em>, and its citizens were called\u00a0Reichsb\u00fcrger<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Reichsb\u00fcrgerbewegung\u00a0<\/em>has been around since the 1980s, but have gained traction since 2010. Many have problems with the German government, such as financial issues. A\u00a0“L\u00f6sung”\u00a0<\/em>(“solution”) is to just not recognize that those problems are valid.<\/p>\n

Also, many\u00a0Reichsb\u00fcrger\u00a0<\/em>feel that they should have had a higher role in life, but that they could not achieve it in reality. One very prominent example is Peter Fitzek.<\/p>\n

K\u00f6nigreich Deutschland<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Peter Fitzek was\u00a0gekr\u00f6nt\u00a0<\/em>(crowned) to become the\u00a0K\u00f6nig des K\u00f6nigreichs Deutschland\u00a0<\/em>(king of the Kingdom Germany). He was a\u00a0Koch\u00a0<\/em>(cook) before he was crowned. Wait, what?<\/p>\n

This video explains what the\u00a0kingdom is. Obviously, it is\u00a0Schwachsinn\u00a0<\/em>(bogus). They cannot just create a new state within Germany, even if they claim to do so. It just explains what it tried to achieve, and how it works. Fitzek became the king of this\u00a0K\u00f6nigreich<\/em>, which consists of so-called\u00a0freie<\/em> B\u00fcrgerInnen<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>(free citizens). It is in the same vein as\u00a0Reichsb\u00fcrger<\/em>. Fitzek became the king. He had his own Wappen<\/em> (coat of arms) and his own Nummernschild<\/em> (car plate). He even tried to arrest a Richter\u00a0<\/em>(judge). The K\u00f6nigreich<\/em> even had its own bureaucracy. This is what it looked like:<\/p>\n

As you can see, Fitzek even opened a\u00a0Bank\u00a0<\/em>(bank)! It was called the K\u00f6nigliche Reichsbank\u00a0<\/em>(Royal Reich Bank), but he ran it without any authorization.\u00a0This led to gigantic\u00a0Geldstrafen\u00a0<\/em>(fines), which were not paid. The\u00a0Polizei\u00a0<\/em>(police) then stormed the\u00a0K\u00f6nigreich<\/em>, and Fitzek was sued and was recently convicted for 3 months\u00a0Haft\u00a0<\/em>(jail time). He could still get more, if evidence for other charges can be found as well.<\/p>\n

Another crazy event that put\u00a0Reichsb\u00fcrger\u00a0<\/em>in the news was the shooting of a policeman. Wolfgang P. was a\u00a0Reichsb\u00fcrger\u00a0<\/em>that refused to pay bills. He cancelled his German identity and declared that he moved to an unknown place. The\u00a0Polizei\u00a0<\/em>raided his house, and he did not just let it happen. He shot back – and heavily wounded two\u00a0Polizisten\u00a0<\/em>(policemen). One of them died some hours later. It showed how dangerous and delusional the movement is.<\/p>\n
