Own photo.<\/p><\/div>\n<h2><strong>KZ-GEDENKST\u00c4TTE <\/strong><strong>DACHAU<\/strong> (Dachau Concentration Camp)<\/h2>\n<p>Set up shortly after Hitler came into power,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kz-gedenkstaette-dachau.de\/index-e.html\"> KZ-Gedenkst\u00e4tte Dachau<\/a> was one of the earliest concentration camps in Germany, serving as a model for all future ones. It is free to visit Dachau, and I highly recommend doing so. It&#8217;s also a little outside M\u00fcnchen, but worth the trip. Be prepared to spend several hours there, as there\u2019s a lot of ground to cover! Own photo.<\/p><\/div>\n<h2><strong>SCHLOSS NYMPHENBURG<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A beautiful, Baroque palace dating back to the 1600s, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.schloss-nymphenburg.de\/englisch\/palace\/index.htm\">Schloss Nymphenburg <\/a>is a must-visit for any history lovers. There are different sections to the palace, including the Martstallmuseum (museum of carriages &amp; sleighs) and the park palaces Amalienburg, Badenburg, Pagodenburg and Magdalenenklause. Buy a ticket for everything, or just certain parts of the palace. Alternatively, keep your money and take a long walk around the stunning palace grounds. Photo by phil_fth on flickr.com under a CC license (CC by 2.0)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>OUTDOOR MUNICH<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Though it\u2019s one of Germany\u2019s biggest cities and the Bavarian capital, M\u00fcnchen has plenty of attractions for nature lovers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.muenchen.de\/int\/en\/sights\/parks\/english-garden.html\">Englischer Garten<\/a><\/strong> (\u2018English Garden\u2019 &#8211; see photo above) is a well-known park in the heart of the city, apparently larger than both London\u2019s Hyde Park and New York\u2019s Central Park! If you fancy a drink while in the Englischer Garten, you\u2019ll be pleased to know there are beer gardens there, too. U-Bahn: Either Giselastra\u00dfe or Universit\u00e4t.<\/li>\n<li>Alternatively, there is the equally beautiful <strong>Westpark <\/strong>(this is the name of the park itself, and of the nearest U-Bahn station).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Swimmers<\/strong> will be pleased to know that there are plenty of outdoor swimming pools in M\u00fcnchen, such as<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swm.de\/privatkunden\/m-baeder\/schwimmen\/freibaeder\/naturbad-maria-einsiedel.html\"> <strong>Freibad Maria Einsiedel.<\/strong><\/a> U-Bahn: Thalkirchen (Tierpark).<\/li>\n<li>You can even do\/see a bit of <strong>river surfing<\/strong> in M\u00fcnchen\u2019s Isar River! There are three locations for M\u00fcnchen\u2019s famous river surfing: Eisbach (Englischer Garten), Flo\u00dfl\u00e4nde (Thalkirchen), and Wittelsbacherbr\u00fccke (a bridge along the River Isar \u2013 this one is for advanced surfers only. Nearest U-Bahn stop for this one would be Kolumbusplatz). Own photo.<\/p><\/div>\n<h2><strong>HOFBR\u00c4UHAUS<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>One of Germany\u2019s oldest breweries and the home of Oktoberfest beer, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hofbraeuhaus.de\/en\/index_en.html\">Hofbr\u00e4uhaus <\/a>is probably on every single list of places to visit in M\u00fcnchen. The food and drink is on the expensive side, but it\u2019s worth going even if it\u2019s just to drink one Ma\u00df (litre of beer), sit with the locals (ok, the tourists) and listen to the Oompah band. Own photo.<\/p><\/div>\n<h2><strong>MARIENPLATZ<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>This is the central square in M\u00fcnchen \u2013 a bit like what Trafalgar Square is to London. Here you\u2019ll find the <strong>Rathaus<\/strong> (town hall) and the <strong>Frauenkirche<\/strong>, also called <strong>Dom zu Unserer Lieben Frau<\/strong> (Cathedral of Our Dear Lady). In winter it is home to the huge <strong>Christkindlmarkt <\/strong>(Christmas market). Photo by paussus on flickr.com under a CC license (CC by 2.0)<\/p><\/div>\n<h2><strong>OLYMPIAPARK<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.olympiapark.de\/en\/olympiapark-munich\/\">Olympiapark <\/a>was the home of the 1972 Summer Olympic Games. Not only is this a massive performance venue, it is a beautiful place to go walking, running, or have a picnic. You can even walk around the stunning, unusual Olympic Village, which was once used to house the athletes, and is now student accommodation. Photo by airboy on flickr.com under a CC license (CC by 2.0)<\/p><\/div>\n<h2><strong>BMW WELT<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Whether you like cars or not, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmw-welt.com\/en\/\">BMW Welt<\/a> is well worth a visit! You can see and sit in the newest models on the market, and even go for a ride in the tiny BMW Isetta (pictured above). The building itself is a stunning piece of architecture, and there\u2019s a caf\u00e9 and a restaurant if you just want to relax for a while. All of the cats here come from rescue shelters, and the cafe donates part of its profit each year to animal organisations. The food served is vegetarian\/vegan and includes breakfast, sandwiches and cakes. It&#8217;s a lovely place to visit if you&#8217;re a cat lover.
