But there are also words in English that were not translated at all &#8211; kept their meaning, spelling but not their pronunciation! Let&#8217;s look at and listen to a few of these <em>Lehnw\u00f6rter\u00a0<\/em>(loanwords).<\/p>\n<p>I first give a recording of the word in both languages, then the German definition with my translation, then the Oxford Dictionary&#8217;s definition, some comments on differences, and an English translation for the German word. It looks more like the Oxford definition is more closely related to the German\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/german\/obscure-german-sorrows-weltschmerz-and-lebensmude\/\"><em>Weltschmerz<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What would an English translation look like?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fear<\/p>\n<h2><strong><em>2. It&#8217;s like the English definition is the\u00a0<em>Doppelg\u00e4nger\u00a0<\/em>of the German definition. It is interesting that even the\u00a0<em>Umlaut\u00a0<\/em>\u00e4 stays in English!<\/p>\n<p><strong>What would an English translation look like?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Double<\/p>\n<h2><strong><em>3. We are looking at<\/p>\n<p><strong>What would an English translation look like?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pre-school; Playschool<\/p>\n<h2><em>5.
