Of course, I am talking about\u00a0<em>Kinder, die noch nicht schlafen wollen\u00a0<\/em>(Children that do not yet want to go to sleep). And what do you tell them? A <em>Gute-Nacht-Geschichte\u00a0<\/em>(good-night story). Es ist hei\u00df, die Sonne steht hoch am Himmel. Doch dem Dickh\u00e4uter ist das egal &#8211; ihm ist nicht warm. Schlie\u00dflich ist er ein Elefant. &#8220;Zzzzzzzzzzzzz!&#8221; h\u00f6rt er pl\u00f6tzlich. Er streckt eines seiner Riesenohren in die Luft und lauscht. &#8220;Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!&#8221; h\u00f6rt er jetzt. Das nervige Summen kommt n\u00e4her. Da wird ihm klar: Eine M\u00fccke!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Hallo, Herr M\u00fccke!&#8221; begr\u00fc\u00dft der Elefant h\u00f6flich. &#8220;Zzzz&#8230; Hallo, Herr Elefant!&#8221; erwidert die M\u00fccke. &#8220;Zzzz&#8230; Sag mal, ich m\u00f6chte auch gern so trompeten k\u00f6nnen wie du. Wie mache ich das?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Der Elefant tr\u00f6tet vor Lachen. &#8220;Aber, lieber Herr M\u00fccke! Du kannst doch kein Elefant werden? Du bist zu klein, du hast keine Ohren&#8230; Wie soll das denn gehen?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Zum tr\u00f6ten muss ich doch nicht so aussehen wie ein Elefant?!&#8221; summt die M\u00fccke emp\u00f6rt.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Vielleicht. Einen R\u00fcssel hast du ja auch&#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Genau! Also, wie geht das?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Der Elefant \u00fcberlegt. &#8220;Naja, du musst deinen R\u00fcssel in die Luft strecken, mit aller Kraft deine Lungen f\u00fcllen und dann ganz kr\u00e4ftig tr\u00f6ten!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Die M\u00fccke h\u00f6rt aufgeregt zu. &#8220;Alles klar!&#8221; Die M\u00fccke streckt ihren R\u00fcssel in die Luft,\u00a0 f\u00fcllt ihre kleinen Lungen so gut sie kann, und tr\u00f6tet. Der Elefant lauscht mit hochgestreckten Ohren.<\/em><\/p>\n<h6>&#8220;t<em>\u00f6r\u00f6&#8221;<\/em><\/h6>\n<p><em>&#8220;Hast du schon getr\u00f6tet?&#8221; fragt der Elefant.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Ja, nat\u00fcrlich!&#8221; hechelt die M\u00fccke verwirrt.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Hmmm&#8230; Versuch&#8217;s mal ein wenig lauter!&#8221; ruft der Elefant der M\u00fccke zu.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Alles klar!&#8221; erwidert die M\u00fccke froh.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Die M\u00fccke nimmt sehr tief Atem. So viel Luft hat sie noch nie in einem Mal geschnappt! Der R\u00fcssel reicht so hoch es nur geht, in Richtung des wolkenlosen Himmels. It is hot, the sun is high in the sky. But the pachyderm doesn&#8217;t mind &#8211; he is not hot. He is an elephant, after all. &#8220;Zzzzzzzzzzzzz!&#8221; he hears, suddenly. He extends one of his giant ears into the air and listens.<br \/>\n&#8220;Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!&#8221; he now hears. The annoying buzzing is coming closer. He realizes: A mosquito!<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hello, Mr mosquito!&#8221; the elephant greets him politely. &#8220;Zzzz&#8230; Hello, Mr elephant!&#8221; the mosquito replies. &#8220;Zzzz&#8230; Say, I also want to be able to trumpet like you. How do I do it?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The elephant trumpets of laughter. &#8220;But, dear Mr mosquito! You cannot become an elephant? The mosquito closes its eyes, and with full force&#8230;.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>*I put toot as the sound an elephant makes. <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/words-for-life\/what-does-an-elephant-say-73309f311ab4\">Apparently, that is not very clear cut in the English language<\/a>. So I went with &#8220;toot&#8221;, which comes quite close. In German, it is definitely &#8220;t\u00f6r\u00f6\u00f6\u00f6!&#8221;, which was entrenched in any child&#8217;s mind by Benjamin Bl\u00fcmchen, a cartoon elephant that is frequently on TV.
