Most gas stations in Greece are not self-service. There is always an employee (βενζινάς) who fills the tank.  They might also offer you a windshield washing free of charge. If you need to check the tire pressure, you have to do it yourself. If the employee does it for you, it would be good to leave them a small tip.

Gas stations are closed at nights and on Sundays but there is always one open gas station in the area.

In this post, there is an example of a dialogue in a gas station. In big cities, it is possible to find an employee who speaks English.

 

Πελάτης:  Γεια σας. Γεμίστε το παρακαλώ, παρακαλώ.   Hello. Fill it up, please.

Βενζινάς: Μάλιστα.  Certainly.

Πελάτης:  Πού μπορώ να ελέγξω τον αέρα στα λάστιχα;  Where can I check  the tire  pressure?

Βενζινάς: Το μηχάνημα είναι εκεί. Να καθαρίσω το παρμπρίζ;  The machine is there.  Shall I clean the windshield?

Πελάτης: Ναι, ευχαριστώ.  Yes, thank you.

Βενζινάς:  Είστε έτοιμος / έτοιμη.  You are ready.

Πελάτης: Μπορώ να πληρώσω με κάρτα;  Can I pay by card?

Βενζινάς: Βεβαίως.  Είναι πενήντα ευρώ. Βάλτε το πιν σας, παρακαλώ. Ορίστε η  κάρτα σας. Ευχαριστούμε  πολύ.  Of course. It costs 50 euros. Enter your PIN, please. Here’s your card. Thank you very much.

Πελάτης: Ευχαριστώ. Γεια σας.  Thank you. Good bye.
