The most famous coffee is a<span> \u00a0 <\/span>type of cold coffee called <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%\">\u03c6\u03c1\u03b1\u03c0\u03ad\u03c2<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%\"> (frappe). Some people love it, some others hate it and for some of us it\u2019s a comfort drink, related to the summer. If you have been to Greece, you have definitely tasted it, or\u00a0 heard about it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%\">Etymology and history<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%\">The noun <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%\">\u03c6\u03c1\u03b1\u03c0\u03ad\u03c2<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%\"> <span lang=\"EN-US\">comes from the French verb frapper, which means to hit. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%\">Frappe was invented in 1957 in Thessaloniki by Dimitris Vakondios, an employee in Nestle company. According to the legend, he wanted to have a cup of instant coffee but couldn\u2019t find any hot water, so he used cold water instead. He mixed coffee, sugar and water in a shaker, and this is how frappe coffee was born!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%\">Ingredients:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%\">Only two ingredients are necessary, coffee and cold water. You can add sugar, evaporated milk and ice cubes. Do not use a liquid sweetener, such as honey or agave syrup, because it won\u2019t melt. However, it\u2019s better to avoid drinking it with an empty stomach, even if you are a big coffee drinker.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%\">Do not overdo it, one frappe per day is enough. The quality of instant coffee is not the best one, and if you are not used to this kind of coffee you might experience some side effects: frappe is laxative; it stimulates the nerves, and might cause dehydration.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%\">Never eat the foam (<\/span><em><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%\">\u03b1\u03c6\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%\"><em>, afros<\/em>)! The cover of your frappe that looks so nice and frothy <span>\u00a0<\/span>is NOT cream, nor milk.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%\">Do not drink it quickly, take your time. Make yourself comfortable and enjoy your friends\u2019 company, the sea view, a newspaper or whatever. Frappe is a cold coffee and sugar cannot be added after it is prepared.
