The first kiosks appeared at the end of the 19<sup>th<\/sup> century, as a form of financial assistance to the war-wounded. At first, the only products found in a kiosk were tobacco and newspapers. In the 50&#8217;s and the 60&#8217;s, the kiosks had telephones. At this time, the Greek households did not have land-line phones, so the kiosks played an important role in the communication of people and they became very popular. Nowadays, they are like mini-markets. Some of the products we find in a <strong><span lang=\"el-GR\">\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03af\u03c0\u03c4\u03b5\u03c1\u03bf <\/span><\/strong>are the following:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u03c4\u03c3\u03b9\u03b3\u03ac\u03c1\u03b1<\/strong>= <span lang=\"en-US\">cigarettes<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u03b1\u03bd\u03b1\u03c0\u03c4\u03ae\u03c1\u03b5\u03c2<\/strong><span lang=\"en-US\">= lighters<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u03c3\u03c0\u03af\u03c1\u03c4\u03b1<\/strong><span lang=\"en-US\">= matches<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03bf\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03ac<\/strong><span lang=\"en-US\">= magazines<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u03b5\u03c6\u03b7\u03bc\u03b5\u03c1\u03af\u03b4\u03b5\u03c2<\/strong><span lang=\"en-US\">= lang=\"el-GR\">(<strong>\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c0\u03c4\u03b5\u03c1\u03ac\u03c2<\/strong>) <\/span>or the woman <span lang=\"el-GR\">(<strong>\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c0\u03c4\u03b5\u03c1\u03bf\u03cd<\/strong>) <\/span>in the kiosk, unless you need to buy things which are inside the kiosk, such as tickets or cigarettes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0388\u03bd\u03b1 \u03b5\u03b9\u03c3\u03b9\u03c4\u03ae\u03c1\u03b9\u03bf, \u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03b1\u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u03ce<\/strong>.<span lang=\"en-US\">= A ticket, please.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u039c\u03ae\u03c0\u03c9\u03c2 \u03ad\u03c7\u03b5\u03c4\u03b5 \u03c7\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03bf\u03bc\u03ac\u03bd\u03c4\u03b9\u03bb\u03b1;<\/strong><span lang=\"en-US\">= Do you have <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">tissues<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If you want to ask about the price, you can say:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u03a0\u03cc\u03c3\u03bf \u03ba\u03ac\u03bd\u03bf\u03c5\u03bd;<\/strong>= how much do they cost?<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u03a0\u03cc\u03c3\u03bf \u03ba\u03ac\u03bd\u03b5\u03b9;<\/strong>= how much does it cost?<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">When you get all the things you want you the employee is likely to ask you if you <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">have finished<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. The most common phrase<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">s<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">are<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> \u201c<\/span><strong>\u03b5\u03bd\u03c4\u03ac\u03be\u03b5\u03b9;<\/strong>\u201d <span lang=\"en-US\">or \u201c<\/span><strong>\u03b1\u03c5\u03c4\u03ac;<\/strong>\u201d <span lang=\"en-US\">You can answer <\/span><strong>\u03bd\u03b1\u03b9<\/strong> <span lang=\"en-US\">(yes).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Kiosk employees know the area very well, so if you are lost you can ask them for information.
