Now it\u2019s time to bring it back in life!<\/p>\n<p>My name is <em>Dareios (\u0394\u03ac\u03c1\u03b5\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2)<\/em> and I am the new writer for the <em>Greek blog (\u0395\u03bb\u03bb\u03b7\u03bd\u03b9\u03ba\u03cc blog)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I would like to introduce myself since we are going to spend much time together learning about the beautiful <em>Greek language and culture (\u0395\u03bb\u03bb\u03b7\u03bd\u03b9\u03ba\u03ae \u03b3\u03bb\u03ce\u03c3\u03c3\u03b1 \u03ba\u03b1\u03b9 \u03c0\u03bf\u03bb\u03b9\u03c4\u03b9\u03c3\u03bc\u03cc).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">I was born and grew up in a small city 10km to the west of <\/span><em><a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?q=athens+greece&amp;hl=en&amp;ll=38.003738,23.731842&amp;spn=0.622209,1.234589&amp;sll=37.0625,-95.677068&amp;sspn=39.916234,79.013672&amp;vpsrc=6&amp;hnear=Athens,+Greece&amp;t=h&amp;z=10\">Athens <\/a>\u00a0(\u0391\u03b8\u03ae\u03bd\u03b1)<\/em>\u00a0<span style=\"text-align: justify;\">and next to <\/span><em><a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?q=Pireus+%5Cgreece&amp;hl=en&amp;ll=37.950966,23.641205&amp;spn=0.155665,0.308647&amp;sll=38.003738,23.731842&amp;sspn=0.622209,1.234589&amp;vpsrc=6&amp;hnear=Piraeus,+Greece&amp;t=h&amp;z=12\">Pireus<\/a>\u00a0(\u03a0\u03b5\u03b9\u03c1\u03b1\u03b9\u03ac\u03c2)<\/em><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">. As you may already know Athens is the capital <em>city (\u03c0\u03c1\u03c9\u03c4\u03b5\u03cd\u03bf\u03c5\u03c3\u03b1)<\/em> of Greece and Pireus is the biggest <em>harbor (\u03bb\u03b9\u03bc\u03ac\u03bd\u03b9)<\/em> of the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I have lived with my parents and my older brother until the age of 18. I had a lovely life back there throughout both of its stages, childhood and teenage! But there was something more. I used to spend every <em>summer (\u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u03bf\u03ba\u03b1\u03af\u03c1\u03b9)<\/em> in my grandparents\u2019 house which is located in Salamina or <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?q=salmis+greece&amp;hl=en&amp;ll=37.929034,23.513489&amp;spn=0.155712,0.308647&amp;sll=37.950966,23.641205&amp;sspn=0.155665,0.308647&amp;vpsrc=0&amp;hnear=Salamis+Island&amp;t=h&amp;z=12\">Salamis<\/a>. <em>Salamis (\u03a3\u03b1\u03bb\u03b1\u03bc\u03af\u03bd\u03b1)<\/em> is the closest island to Athens and it takes only <em>15 minutes travelling by boat (15 \u03bb\u03b5\u03c0\u03c4\u03ac \u03c4\u03b1\u03be\u03af\u03b4\u03b9 \u03bc\u03b5 \u03c4\u03bf \u03ba\u03b1\u03c1\u03ac\u03b2\u03b9)<\/em> to reach it. My grandparents\u2019 house is 10 min walking from the <em>beach (\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03b1\u03bb\u03af\u03b1)<\/em>. Needless to say that I had the best summers of my life there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After I have finished <em>high school (\u03bb\u03cd\u03ba\u03b5\u03b9\u03bf)<\/em> I moved to another city for my studies. I studied in <em><a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?q=evia+greece&amp;hl=en&amp;ll=38.522384,23.856812&amp;spn=1.23555,2.469177&amp;sll=37.929034,23.513489&amp;sspn=0.155712,0.308647&amp;vpsrc=6&amp;hnear=Euboea&amp;t=h&amp;z=9\">Evia <\/a>(\u0395\u03cd\u03bf\u03b9\u03b1)\u00a0<\/em>which is also an <em>island (\u03bd\u03b7\u03c3\u03af)<\/em> 100km to the north of Athens and it is connected with the mainland of Greece by two bridges.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When I finished my studies I had to do my military service for a year and afterwards I left for Germany, where I live now, to do my graduate studies in Engineering.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So, that\u2019s all about me, more or less.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some basics about Greece and Greek:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Greece (\u0395\u03bb\u03bb\u03ac\u03b4\u03b1)<\/em> is located to the southeast end of <em>Europe (\u0395\u03c5\u03c1\u03ce\u03c0\u03b7<\/em>). It is surrounded by the <em>Aegean Sea (\u0391\u03b9\u03b3\u03b1\u03af\u03bf \u03a0\u03ad\u03bb\u03b1\u03b3\u03bf\u03c2)<\/em> from the east, the <em>Ionian Sea (\u0399\u03cc\u03bd\u03b9\u03bf \u03a0\u03ad\u03bb\u03b1\u03b3\u03bf\u03c2)<\/em> fr\u03bfm the west and the <em>Mediterranean Sea (\u039c\u03b5\u03c3\u03cc\u03b3\u03b5\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2 \u03b8\u03ac\u03bb\u03b1\u03c3\u03c3\u03b1)<\/em> from the south. Greece consists of 6000 islands and islets fr\u03bfm which only 227 are inhabited.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The population of Greece is around 11 million people.<em> Greek (\u03b5\u03bb\u03bb\u03b7\u03bd\u03b9\u03ba\u03ac)<\/em> is spoken all over the country. There are some differences in the pronunciation and the vocabulary in some islands and cities, but this is not a problem in communication.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Together we are going to explore several aspects of Greek tradition and culture. Additionally we are going to learn some basic grammar and vocabulary. I hope to meet your expectations with my posts and have nice time together.
