90 years ago, at the first intermediate day of Passover, Rothschild Boulevard<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0Tel Aviv<\/a> prepared for the first Hebrew Book Day. The police orchestra played Hebrew tunes, notables delivered speeches, a couple of publishing houses set up stalls and sold their books at a 25% discount, and the mass observed what will become the annual Hebrew Book Week of Israel.<\/p>\n

Every year at the beginning of June, Israel celebrates literature in general (and Hebrew literature in particular). During the Hebrew Book Week, book stores and publishing houses sell their works in stalls all over the country. Every city, every town, and every local council open up their squares, libraries, and boulevards for book markets. All the books are in discount. But all of this is insignificant compared to the literature festival held during the week: the award ceremony of Sapir Prize, public readings, get-togethers with authors, and my favorite: authors signing their books. You can spot them in the stalls, chat with them, and ask for a personal dedication.<\/p>\n

The main fair takes place in Tel-Aviv at Rabin Square, and for nerds like me it’s the perfect party: Hebrew music is playing in the speakers, stalls selling snacks and bites, and everyone is engaged with books. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
