Colors\u2019 names are very useful in daily spoken language, they are among the first words every language learner memorizes. Today we\u2019ll delve into three basic colors: black, white and gray.<\/p>\n

\u05e9\u05c1\u05b8\u05d7\u05b9\u05d5\u05e8 (black), \u05dc\u05b8\u05d1\u05b8\u05df (white) and \u05d0\u05b8\u05e4\u05b9\u05d5\u05e8 (gray) are the singular masculine forms of these colors. The Hebrew language has a grammatical gender. Every noun and pronoun has a gender \u2013 masculine or feminine. There is nothing male or female about objects, but when talking about them the verbs and adjectives should conjugate corresponding to their gender. When describing feminine nouns or pronouns, \u05e9\u05c1\u05b8\u05d7\u05b9\u05d5\u05e8, \u05dc\u05b8\u05d1\u05b8\u05df \u05d5\u05b0\u05d0\u05b8\u05e4\u05b9\u05d5\u05e8 should appear in their feminine forms:<\/p>\n

In Hebrew, adjectives and verbs are also conjugated according to the distinction of singular and plural of the pronoun or noun. If the subject appears in its singular, so will the adjective describing it. If the subject appears in its plural form, so will the verb referring to it. When describing plural nouns or pronouns, \u05e9\u05c1\u05b8\u05d7\u05b9\u05d5\u05e8, \u05dc\u05b8\u05d1\u05b8\u05df \u05d5\u05b0\u05d0\u05b8\u05e4\u05b9\u05d5\u05e8 should appear in their plural forms:<\/p>\n

In Hebrew, nouns are made definite by adding the prefix \u05d4’ \u05d4\u05b7\u05d9\u05b0\u05bc\u05d3\u05c5\u05d9\u05e2\u05b8\u05d4 (hey hayedia<\/em>). The prefix \u05d4 functions like the definite article the<\/em> in English. The word \u05e2\u05b4\u05d9\u05ea\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9\u05df (newspaper<\/em>), for example, indicates any newspaper; while the word \u05d4\u05b8\u05e2\u05c5\u05d9\u05ea\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9\u05df (the newspaper<\/em>) refers to a specific newspaper. In English, when a combination of a noun and its modifying adjective is made definite, the definite article the <\/em>appears before the phrase. In Hebrew, the hey haydia<\/em> definite article prefix appears twice. It precedes both the noun and the adjective. The same is true when the adjective is a color.<\/p>\n
