Every election is different. As the third election held within a period of 12 months, this one is especially tense. But there are things that never change on the Election Day (<strong>\u05d9\u05d5\u05ba\u05dd \u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05d7\u05b4\u05d9\u05e8\u05d5\u05b9\u05ea<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>Israel Election Day starts early. The polling stations (<strong>\u05e2\u05b6\u05de\u05b0\u05d3\u05bc\u05b7\u05ea \u05e7\u05b7\u05dc\u05b0\u05e4\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9<\/strong>) open their doors at 7 a.m. As they open the campaigning (<strong>\u05ea\u05bc\u05b7\u05e2\u05b2\u05de\u05d5\u05bc\u05dc\u05b8\u05d4<\/strong>) begins, in a last attempt to convince (<strong>\u05dc\u05b0\u05e9\u05c1\u05b7\u05db\u05b0\u05e0\u05b5\u05e2\u05b7<\/strong>) the remaining floating votes (<strong>\u05e7\u05d5\u05b9\u05dc\u05d5\u05b9\u05ea \u05e6\u05b8\u05e4\u05b4\u05d9\u05dd<\/strong>), on their way, and even on their arrival, to the polling station. The Knesset Election Law prohibits campaigning inside the station. A voter isn\u2019t even allowed to mention the candidate he is voting for. Voting is not compulsory, and yet Israel voter turnout (<strong>\u05d0\u05b8\u05d7\u05d5\u05bc\u05d6 \u05d4\u05b7\u05e6\u05b0\u05d1\u05bc\u05b8\u05e2\u05b8\u05d4<\/strong>) is pretty high, almost 70% in the last elections of September 2019. <strong>\u05dc\u05b0\u05db\u05d5\u05bc \u05dc\u05b0\u05d4\u05b7\u05e6\u05b0\u05d1\u05bc\u05c5\u05d9\u05e2\u05b7<\/strong> (<em>go vote<\/em>) is the slogan of the day. Updated turnout figures are published on radio and television throughout the election day. Israeli politicians and journalists consistently exhort (<strong>\u05dc\u05b0\u05d4\u05b7\u05e4\u05b0\u05e6\u05b4\u05d9\u05e8<\/strong>) the citizens to spend this sabbatical day to exercise their right to vote (<strong>\u05d6\u05b0\u05db\u05d5\u05bc\u05ea \u05d4\u05b7\u05e6\u05b0\u05d1\u05bc\u05b8\u05e2\u05b8\u05d4<\/strong>). The Central Elections Committee came out with a new campaign to encourage voting. <strong>\u05d0\u05b5\u05d9\u05df \u05dc\u05b8\u05db\u05b6\u05dd \u05d6\u05b0\u05db\u05d5\u05bc\u05ea \u05dc\u05b0\u05d5\u05b8\u05d5\u05ea\u05bc\u05b5\u05e8 \u05e2\u05b7\u05dc \u05d4\u05b7\u05d6\u05b0\u05bc\u05db\u05d5\u05bc\u05ea<\/strong> (<em>you have no right to give up on that right<\/em>) is the slogan of their campaign:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u05e7\u05de\u05e4\u05d9\u05d9\u05df \u05d5\u05e2\u05d3\u05ea \u05d4\u05d1\u05d7\u05d9\u05e8\u05d5\u05ea \u05d4\u05de\u05e8\u05db\u05d6\u05d9\u05ea \u05dc\u05e2\u05d9\u05d3\u05d5\u05d3 \u05d4\u05e6\u05d1\u05e2\u05d4\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mjPS18j6qHg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Among the first voters are usually the politicians themselves, in an effort to encourage (<strong>\u05dc\u05b0\u05e2\u05d5\u05b9\u05d3\u05b5\u05d3<\/strong>) people to do the same. Plus, they are beginning a busy day, the last day of their election campaign. Since Israeli voters are only allowed to vote in the polling station assigned to them \u2013 the one adjacent to their house \u2013 it is more convenient to do it first thing on the morning. Benny Gantz, for example, who is running for the prime minister, got up early to vote in his hometown on September 2019 election and then drove north to Haifa to persuade (<strong>\u05dc\u05b0\u05e9\u05c1\u05b7\u05db\u05b0\u05e0\u05b5\u05e2\u05b7<\/strong>) people to vote. His party member, Yair Lapid, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/yairlapid\/status\/1173909523372883968\">went<\/a> to the beach and the park of Tel-Aviv, hoping to influence (<strong>\u05dc\u05b0\u05d4\u05b7\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05e4\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9\u05e2\u05b7<\/strong>) the turnout. Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu woke up and went to vote with his wife. To the cameras he said: <strong>\u05d0\u05b2\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9 \u05e7\u05d5\u05ba\u05e8\u05b5\u05d0 \u05dc\u05b0\u05db\u05b8\u05dc \u05d0\u05b6\u05d6\u05b0\u05e8\u05b0\u05d7\u05b5\u05d9 \u05d9\u05b4\u05e9\u05c2\u05b0\u05e8\u05b8\u05d0\u05b5\u05dc \u05dc\u05b8\u05d1\u05d5\u05bc\u05d0 \u05d5\u05bc\u05dc\u05b0\u05d4\u05b7\u05e6\u05b0\u05d1\u05b4\u05bc\u05d9\u05e2\u05b7<\/strong> (<em>I urge all the citizens of Israel to come and vote<\/em>), but since he was inside the polling station he refrained from saying for whom.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u05d1\u05e0\u05d9\u05de\u05d9\u05df \u05e0\u05ea\u05e0\u05d9\u05d4\u05d5 \u05de\u05e6\u05d1\u05d9\u05e2 \u05d1\u05e7\u05dc\u05e4\u05d9 \u05d1\u05d9\u05e8\u05d5\u05e9\u05dc\u05d9\u05dd\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PphLRVJkauk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The law prohibits publishing polls (<strong>\u05e1\u05b0\u05e7\u05b8\u05e8\u05c5\u05d9\u05dd<\/strong>) in the five days preceding election day. It doesn\u2019t mean the pollsters are resting. They continue to work, to collect and analyze information, and getting ready to the poll everybody is waiting for \u2013 the exit poll (<strong>\u05ea\u05bc\u05d5\u05ba\u05e6\u05b0\u05d0\u05d5\u05ba\u05ea \u05de\u05b4\u05d3\u05b0\u05d2\u05bc\u05b8\u05dd \u05d4\u05b7\u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05d7\u05b4\u05d9\u05e8\u05d5\u05b9\u05ea<\/strong>). Three Israeli TV channels compete for ratings at the end of the election day, and broadcast their own exit poll at 10 p.m. Each channel has its own pollster (<strong>\u05e1\u05d5\u05b9\u05e7\u05b5\u05e8<\/strong>), each wishing to be the most precise. Not only his personal prestige is at stake, but the prestige of the entire channel. The count takes about twelve hours, and the results are published the next day. In previous elections, when it was clear from the exit poll who is the winner, the victory party began immediately, and the candidates delivered their speeches in accordance to the results (<strong>\u05ea\u05bc\u05d5\u05ba\u05e6\u05b8\u05d0\u05d5\u05ba\u05ea<\/strong>). But the last two elections taught us that the elections are only the beginning. Forming a coalition is the real assignment.
