COVID-19 pandemic has reached Israel on February 2020, as we covered in Coronavirus in Israel: Part 1<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The first case in the country was confirmed on 21 February. Authorities reacted quickly. A national state of emergency (\u05de\u05b7\u05e6\u05bc\u05b7\u05d1 \u05d7\u05b5\u05e8\u05d5\u05bc\u05dd) was declared, social distancing was enforced, gatherings were restricted to only two people, restrictions (\u05d4\u05b7\u05d2\u05b0\u05d1\u05bc\u05b8\u05dc\u05d5\u05ba\u05ea) on movement were tightened, and Israelis were not allowed to leave their homes unless necessary.<\/p>\n

Easing (\u05d4\u05b2\u05e7\u05b8\u05dc\u05b8\u05d4) of lockdown restrictions began only in May 2020. School and preschool reopened, the 100-meter limit on venturing from homes was removed, and first-degree relatives could be reunited, including the elderly. On May 20, when beaches were reopened, only 8 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed; death toll was 279. Several days later when restaurants, parks and swimming pools were reopened, Prime Minister Netanyahu told Israelis, \u201c enjoy yourselves \u201d:<\/p>\n
