These cities are widely visited by religious pilgrims and tourists from all over the world.<\/p>\n<p>Kanchipuram has been dubbed the city of temples because there are at least one hundred and sixteen temples in this city alone.\u00a0 Kanchipuram was also an important center of learning. Advancements in medicine were made in Kanchipuram, which continues to be a site of scholarly activity. In addition to being a religious center, the city of Ujjain was also a center of mathematical importance. The use of zero, negative numbers and trigonometry were thought to have originated from Ujjain. Pilgrims come every day to the bathing ghats of Varanasi to partake in their spiritual cleansing. The bathing ghats are stone slab steps near the Ganges where devotees perform their ritual cleaning. Varanasi is known for its saris, which are made of delicate, rich silk.
