In next post, I will show you more details and examples on how to change from gender, number and more on cases in Hindi.<\/p>\n<p>The three different declensions of noun are:<\/p>\n<h3><strong>1. \u0932\u093f\u0902\u0917 &#8211; Ling &#8211; Gender<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This declension tell us the gender of the noun. Lets see some examples:<br \/>\n<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0932\u0921\u093c\u0915\u093e<\/strong> \u0916\u0947\u0932 <strong>\u0930\u0939\u093e \u0939\u0948<\/strong>. Boy is playing.<br \/>\n<strong>\u0932\u0921\u093c\u0915\u0940<\/strong> \u0916\u0947\u0932 <strong>\u0930\u0939\u0940 \u0939\u0948<\/strong>. Girl is playing.<br \/>\nand,<br \/>\n<strong>\u0939\u0935\u093e<\/strong> \u091a\u0932 <strong>\u0930\u0939\u0940 \u0939\u0948<\/strong>. Wind is flowing.<br \/>\n<strong>\u092a\u0902\u0916\u093e<\/strong> \u091a\u0932 <strong>\u0930\u0939\u093e \u0939\u0948<\/strong>. Fan is blowing.<\/p>\n<p>These are of 2 types:<\/p>\n<p><strong>a. \u092a\u0941\u0932\u094d\u0932\u093f\u0902\u0917 \u0938\u0902\u091c\u094d\u091e\u093e &#8211; Pulling Sangya &#8211; Masculine Nouns:<\/strong><br \/>\nThere are certain noun which are always masculine like:<br \/>\n1. \u0906\u0915\u093e\u0930\u093e\u0902\u0924 \u0936\u092c\u094d\u0926: \u00a0\u0915\u092a\u0921\u093e, \u0932\u094b\u0939\u093e, \u0926\u0930\u0935\u093e\u091c\u093e\u00a0\u0906\u0926\u093f (Masc. words: Cloth, Iron, Door etc.)<br \/>\n2. \u0926\u0947\u0936: \u0905\u092e\u0947\u0930\u093f\u0915\u093e, \u092d\u093e\u0930\u0924, \u091c\u0947\u0930\u094d\u092e\u0928\u0940, \u092b\u094d\u0930\u093e\u0902\u0938\u00a0\u0906\u0926\u093f. (Countries: America, India, Germany, France etc.)<br \/>\n3. \u092a\u0930\u094d\u0935\u0924\u094b : \u0939\u093f\u092e\u093e\u0932\u092f, \u0915\u0948\u0932\u093e\u0936, \u0906\u0930\u093e\u0935\u0932\u0940\u00a0\u0906\u0926\u093f. (Mountains: Himalaya, Kailash, Aravali etc)<br \/>\n4. \u0917\u094d\u0930\u0939\u094b\u0902 : \u092e\u0902\u0917\u0932 , \u0936\u0928\u093f, \u092c\u0941\u0927 \u0906\u0926\u093f. (Planets: Mars, Saturn,\u00a0Jupiter etc.)<br \/>\n5. \u0927\u093e\u0924\u0941\u0913\u0902: \u0938\u094b\u0928\u093e, \u091a\u093e\u0902\u0926\u0940, \u092a\u0940\u0924\u0932 , \u0932\u094b\u0939\u093e \u0906\u0926\u093f. (Metals: Gold, Silver, Iron etc.)<br \/>\n6. \u0926\u093f\u0928\u094b\u0902 : \u0938\u094b\u092e, \u092e\u0902\u0917\u0932, \u092c\u0941\u0927, \u0930\u0935\u093f, \u0936\u0928\u093f \u0906\u0926\u093f. (Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Sunday, Saturday etc.)<br \/>\n7. \u0938\u092e\u0941\u0928\u094d\u0926\u0930\u094b: \u0939\u093f\u0902\u0926 \u092e\u0939\u093e\u0938\u093e\u0917\u0930, \u0905\u0930\u092c \u0938\u093e\u0917\u0930\u00a0\u0906\u0926\u093f. (Oceans\/Sea: Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea etc)<br \/>\n8. \u092a\u0926\u093e\u0930\u094d\u0925\/ \u092a\u0924\u094d\u0925\u0930: \u0939\u0940\u0930\u093e, \u092e\u094b\u0924\u0940, \u092e\u0923\u093f \u0906\u0926\u093f. (Precious Stones: Diamond, Pearl, Gem etc.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>b. \u0938\u094d\u0924\u094d\u0930\u0940\u0932\u093f\u0902\u0917 \u0938\u0902\u091c\u094d\u091e\u093e &#8211; Striling Sangya &#8211; Feminine Noun: <\/strong><br \/>\nThere are certain noun which are always feminine like:<br \/>\n1. \u0907\u0915\u093e\u0930\u093e\u0902\u0924 \u0936\u092c\u094d\u0926\u094b\u0902 : \u0928\u0926\u0940, \u0930\u094b\u091f\u0940, \u092c\u0947\u091f\u0940 \u0906\u0926\u093f. (Fem. words: River, Bread, Daughter etc.)<br \/>\n2. \u092d\u093e\u0937\u093e\u0913\u0902: \u0939\u093f\u0902\u0926\u0940, \u0905\u0902\u0917\u094d\u0930\u0947\u091c\u093c\u0940, \u091a\u0940\u0928\u0940, \u0909\u0930\u094d\u0926\u0942 \u0906\u0926\u093f. ( Languages: Hindi, English, Chinese, Urdu etc.)<br \/>\n3. \u0928\u0926\u093f\u0913\u0902: \u092f\u092e\u0941\u0928\u093e, \u0917\u0902\u0917\u093e, \u0938\u0930\u0938\u094d\u0935\u0924\u0940, \u0915\u093e\u0935\u0947\u0930\u0940 \u0906\u0926\u093f. (Rivers: Yamuna, Ganga, Sarasvati, Kavari etc.)<br \/>\n4. \u091c\u093f\u0928 \u0936\u092c\u094d\u0926\u094b\u0902 \u092e\u0947\u0902 &#8220;\u0924\u093e&#8221;, &#8220;\u0906\u0908&#8221;, &#8220;\u0906\u0935\u091f&#8221;, &#8220;\u0907\u092f\u093e&#8221; : \u0938\u0941\u0928\u094d\u0926\u0930\u0924\u093e, \u092c\u0941\u0930\u093e\u0908, \u0938\u091c\u093e\u0935\u091f \u0906\u0926\u093f. (words: \u00a0Beauty, Badness, Decoration etc.)<br \/>\n5. \u0936\u093e\u0938\u094d\u0924\u094d\u0930\u094b\u0902 : \u092c\u0928\u094d\u0926\u0942\u0915, \u0924\u0932\u0935\u093e\u0930, \u0924\u094b\u092a \u0906\u0926\u093f. (Weapons: Gun, Sword, Cannon etc.)<\/p>\n<p>Some of the noun are used for both masculine and feminine like \u0915\u094b\u092f\u0932, \u0909\u0932\u094d\u0932\u0942 etc. To differentiate between the two, we need to add a prefix <strong>&#8220;\u0928\u0930&#8221;<\/strong> for masculine and <strong>&#8220;\u092e\u093e\u0926\u093e&#8221;<\/strong> for feminine.<br \/>\nSo, it will be <strong>\u0928\u0930 \u0915\u094b\u092f\u0932<\/strong> for Mas. Cuckoo and<strong> \u092e\u093e\u0926\u093e \u0909\u0932\u094d\u0932\u0942<\/strong> for Fem. Owl.<\/p>\n<p>Some noun are not clear and found only by understanding the sentence. For example :<br \/>\n1. \u0915\u0932 \u092a\u094d\u0930\u0927\u093e\u0928\u092e\u0902\u0924\u094d\u0930\u0940 \u091c\u093e <strong>\u0930\u0939\u0947 \u0939\u0948\u0902<\/strong>. Prime Minster is going tomorrow.<br \/>\nHere &#8220;\u0930\u0939\u0947 \u0939\u0948\u0902&#8221; &#8211; jaa rahe (is going) indicate the Prime Minister is Masculine with &#8220;\u0930\u0939\u0947&#8221; (masculine))<br \/>\n2. \u092a\u094d\u0930\u0927\u093e\u0928\u092e\u0902\u0924\u094d\u0930\u0940 \u0926\u093f\u0932\u094d\u0932\u0940 \u091c\u093e <strong>\u0930\u0939\u0940 \u0939\u0948\u0902<\/strong>. Prime Minister is going to Delhi.<br \/>\nHere &#8220;\u0930\u0939\u0940 \u0939\u0948\u0902&#8221; &#8211; jaa rahe (is going) indicate the Prime Minister is Feminine with &#8220;\u0930\u0939\u0940&#8221; (feminine))<\/p>\n<h3><strong>2. \u0935\u091a\u0928 &#8211; Vacchan &#8211; Number (grammatical)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In Hindi, the number are divided into two types:<\/p>\n<p><strong>a. \u090f\u0915 \u0935\u091a\u0928 &#8211; Ek Vachan &#8211; Singular Number<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u0932\u0921\u093c\u0915\u093e<\/strong> \u092c\u093e\u0924 \u0915\u0930 <strong>\u0930\u0939\u093e \u0939\u0948<\/strong>. Boy is talking.<br \/>\nHere, \u0932\u0921\u093c\u0915\u093e and \u0930\u0939\u093e \u0939\u0948 both point to singular number.<br \/>\n<strong>\u0932\u0921\u093c\u0915\u0940<\/strong> \u0916\u0947\u0932 <strong>\u0930\u0939\u0940 \u0939\u0948<\/strong>. Girl is playing.<br \/>\nHere, \u0932\u0921\u093c\u0915\u0940 and \u0930\u0939\u0940 \u0939\u0948 both point to singular number.<br \/>\n<strong>b. \u092c\u0939\u0941\u0935\u091a\u0928 &#8211; Bahuvachan &#8211; Plural Number<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u0932\u0921\u093c\u0915\u0947<\/strong> \u092c\u093e\u0924 \u0915\u0930 <strong>\u0930\u0939\u0947 \u0939\u0948\u0902<\/strong>. Boys are talking.<br \/>\nHere, \u0932\u0921\u093c\u0915\u0947 and \u0930\u0939\u0947 \u0939\u0948\u0902 both point to a plural number.<br \/>\n<strong>\u0932\u0921\u093c\u0915\u093f\u092f\u093e\u0902<\/strong> \u0916\u0947\u0932 <strong>\u0930\u0939\u0940 \u0939\u0948\u0902<\/strong>. Girls are playing.<br \/>\nHere, \u0932\u0921\u093c\u0915\u093f\u092f\u093e\u0902 and \u0930\u0939\u0940 \u0939\u0948\u0902 both point to plural number.<\/p>\n<p>So, in comparison to English, we have two marker that indicate the grammatical number in Hindi.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>3. \u0915\u093e\u0930\u0915 &#8211; Karak &#8211; Case<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In Hindi, \u0915\u093e\u0930\u0915 (Case) shows what is being done by whom and by what. Instances are highlighted :<\/p>\n<p>1. <strong>\u0930\u093e\u0939\u0941\u0932 \u0928\u0947<\/strong> \u092a\u0922\u093e\u0908 \u0915\u0940. Rahul did study.<br \/>\n2. \u0930\u093e\u091c\u0940\u0935 \u0928\u0947 <strong>\u0915\u092e\u0932 \u0938\u0947<\/strong> \u092c\u093e\u0924 \u0915\u0940. Rajiv had talk with Kamal.<br \/>\n3. \u0915\u094b\u092e\u0932 <strong>\u0915\u093e\u0930 \u0938\u0947<\/strong> \u0915\u093e\u0930\u094d\u092f\u0932\u092f \u091c\u093e\u0924\u0940 \u0939\u0948. Komal goes to office with a car.<br \/>\n4. \u092e\u0948\u0902 <strong>\u0938\u092c \u0915\u0947 \u0932\u093f\u090f<\/strong> \u0932\u093f\u0916 \u0930\u0939\u093e \u0939\u0942\u0901. I am writing for all.<\/p>\n<p>There are 8 major cases in Hindi.<br \/>\nThese are :<br \/>\n<strong>1. \u0915\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093e \u0915\u093e\u0930\u0915 &#8211; Karta Karak &#8211; Nominative Case<\/strong> : This uses <strong>\u0928\u0947<\/strong> as postposition.<br \/>\n<strong>2. \u0915\u0930\u0923 \u0915\u093e\u0930\u0915 &#8211; Karan Karak &#8211; Instrument Case<\/strong> : This uses <strong>\u0938\u0947, \u0915\u0947<\/strong> \u0926\u094d\u0935\u093e\u0930\u093e as postposition.<br \/>\n<strong>3. \u0905\u092a\u093e\u0926\u093e\u0928 \u0915\u093e\u0930\u0915 &#8211; Apaadan Karak &#8211; Ablative Case<\/strong> :This uses <strong>\u0938\u0947<\/strong> as postposition.<br \/>\n<strong>4. \u0938\u092e\u094d\u092c\u0928\u094d\u0927 \u0915\u093e\u0930\u0915 &#8211; Samband Karak &#8211; Possessive Case<\/strong> :This uses <strong>\u0915\u093e, \u0915\u0947 , \u0915\u0940 \/ \u0930\u093e , \u0930\u0947, \u0930\u0940<\/strong> as postposition.<br \/>\n<strong>5. \u0915\u0930\u094d\u092e \u0915\u093e\u0930\u0915 &#8211; Karm Karak &#8211; Objective Case<\/strong> :This uses <strong>\u0915\u094b<\/strong> as postposition.<br \/>\n<strong>6. \u0938\u0902\u092a\u094d\u0930\u0926\u093e\u0928 \u0915\u093e\u0930\u0915 &#8211; Sanpradan Karak &#8211; Dative Case<\/strong> :This uses<strong> \u0915\u094b, \u0915\u0947 \u0932\u093f\u090f<\/strong> as postposition.<br \/>\n<strong>7. \u0905\u0927\u093f\u0915\u0930\u0923 \u0915\u093e\u0930\u0915 &#8211; Adhikaran Karak &#8211; Locative Case<\/strong> :This uses <strong>\u092e\u0947\u0902, \u092a\u0930<\/strong> as postposition.<br \/>\n<strong>8. \u0938\u0902\u092c\u094b\u0927\u0928 \u0915\u093e\u0930\u0915 &#8211; Sanbodhan Karak &#8211; Vocative Case<\/strong> :This uses <strong>\u0939\u0947, \u0905\u0930\u0947, \u0913<\/strong> as postposition.<\/p>\n<p>More details and examples on declensions of noun will be found in continuing post that I will write tomorrow.
