In today’s globalized world, where a company (संगठन – Sangathan) has to deal with another company it is better to know about the different working cultures.

So, I decided to make a post regarding the topic for our Hindi page readers who are interested about Indian ethics (आचार – Aachaar) and culture (संस्कृति – Sanskriti) at work place (कार्यालय – Karayalaya).

Workdays or Working Days
Most of the company operates for about 6 days a week which mean many Indians are working even on Saturday. Some big and multi-national companies which are related to the finance or information technology sectors offer Saturday off. Some of the companies, where projects are involved, people could be seen going to work even on Sunday. It is true that we don’t want to go but we have no choice.

Working Time
In most of the companies, the standard timing is from 8.00 am in the morning (सुबह – Subah) till 5.00 pm in evening (शाम – Shaam). Many public sector companies (सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र कंपनियां – Saarvajanik Shetr Companiyan) could be seen to adhere to these timings. In private sector companies (निजी क्षेत्र की कंपनियां – Niji Shetr Companiyan), people tend to work more than usual hours. Work after the normal working time is forced to the employees (कर्मचारियों – Karamchariyon) against their will by taking advantage of fact that “if you won’t do it, other can”. And, as the India has a large workforce and competition (प्रतिस्पर्धा – Pratispardha) for getting work is high, most of the employees don’t have another choice but to work overtime (अधिक समय – Adhik Samay). However, in some companies it is not difficult to find some employees who won’t mind to waste time on one or another pretext during working hours. Another problem is the official corruption in government (सरकार- Sarkar) led companies where employees at higher position misuse their right (अधिकार- Adhikaar) by coming to office late and leaving early as compared to their subordinate (अधीनस्थ -Adhinasth).

Environment at Work Place
Usually, it depends on the employees itself. Most of the time, the environment (वातावरण – Vaataavaran) is nice among colleagues and stressful (तनावपूर्ण – Tanavpurn) between superiors and their subordinate. The employees which enjoy good rapport (मेल – Mail) among colleagues or superior usually have good time at work. Sometimes, some employees change their companies just because he or she couldn’t adjust to the new colleagues or superior (प्रधान – Pradhan) or the work environment itself.

Recreation at Working Place
Many companies, especially the IT companies provide their employees many recreation facilities (मनोरंजन की सुविधाएं – Manoranjan Ki Suvidhayein) which may include facilities for sport, fitness, language learning etc. Many companies hold annual celebration (उत्सव – Utsav) where employees can nominate for a performance and show their talents. Many companies also take their employees for regular excursion (भ्रमण – Bhraman) to refresh their mind. Most of the companies provide cafeteria or canteen (भोजनालय – Bhojanalaya) for their employees. The food could be free as in many large IT companies or available on the discounted rates.

Someday ago, an German friend of mine was interested to know about the working culture, timing etc in India as his company was dealing with an Indian company.
