Because of wide variety of terrain, the climatic condition also varies. The climate (\u092e\u094c\u0938\u092e &#8211; Mausam) could be extremely \u00a0(\u0905\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0902\u0924 &#8211; <em>atiyant<\/em>)\u00a0warm (\u0917\u0930\u094d\u092e &#8211; <em>garm<\/em>) in one region to extremely cold (\u0920\u0902\u0921\u093e\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<em>thanda<\/em>)\u00a0in another.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The climate in India could be divided into at least 6 sub-climates and micro-climates which include the desert with hot climate in northwest,\u00a0permanent snowfields in north, tropical\u00a0coast lands\u00a0in south and southwest, fertile and intensively cultivated fields in the northeast.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to India Meteorological Department, India has four climatic seasons and witness winter from December and April , summer from April to June or July (according to region), a rainy\u00a0monsoon\u00a0from June or July to September and a post-monsoon period from October to December. However, the Himalayan states have 2 additional seasons which are autumn and spring. According to Hindu calender, there are 6 seasons which are\u00a0spring (<em>vasanta<\/em>), summer (\u0917\u094d\u0930\u0940\u0937\u094d\u092e &#8211;\u00a0<em>gr\u012b<\/em><em>\u1e63<\/em><em>ma<\/em>), monsoon season (\u0935\u0930\u094d\u0937\u093e &#8211;\u00a0<em>var<\/em><em>\u1e63<\/em><em>\u0101<\/em>), early autumn (\u0936\u0930\u0926 &#8211;\u00a0<em>\u015barada<\/em>), late autumn (\u0939\u0947\u092e\u0902\u0924 &#8211;\u00a0<em>hemanta<\/em>), and winter (\u0936\u0940\u0924 &#8211;\u00a0<em>\u015bi\u015bira<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Because of the Himalayas (\u0939\u093f\u092e\u093e\u0932\u092f)\u00a0and the\u00a0Hindu Kush (\u0939\u093f\u0928\u094d\u0926\u0942 \u0915\u0941\u0936) mountains range in Pakistan, the cold wind from Central Asia are blocked from entering into India and keeping the Indian sub-continent (\u092d\u093e\u0930\u0924\u0940\u092f \u0909\u092a \u092e\u0939\u093e\u0926\u094d\u0935\u0940\u092a) warmer as compared to the country at similar latitude (\u0905\u0915\u094d\u0937\u093e\u0902\u0936).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Another important feature of Indian climate is Asiatic\u00a0monsoon, in which the wind flows in one direction, southwest throughout India during a period in a year (\u0935\u0930\u094d\u0937 &#8211; <em>varsha<\/em>) and reverses the direction (\u0926\u093f\u0936\u093e &#8211; <em>disha<\/em>) of flow (\u092a\u094d\u0930\u0935\u093e\u0939 &#8211; <em>pravah<\/em>) to northeast at another time in a year. During June to September period, the monsoon brings rain bearing winds from the southwest. This period is the most humid (\u0928\u092e &#8211; <em>nam<\/em>) in a year. The monsoon wind reach south India (\u0926\u0915\u094d\u0937\u093f\u0923 \u092d\u093e\u0930\u0924) around end of May or June and it takes around 6 weeks for the wind to move to the north Indian parts. \u00a0In some of the part, monsoon could bring heavy rains and in another no rain at all. People especially farmers\u00a0usually expect monsoon to come on time and bring an adequate amount of rain.
