It has been many months and the fight (\u0932\u0921\u093c\u093e\u0908 – ladai) is still on. Yes, I am taking about the fight against corruption (\u092d\u094d\u0930\u0937\u094d\u091f\u093e\u091a\u093e\u0930 – bharastachar) in India. I could not resist but to give you an overview (\u0905\u0935\u0932\u094b\u0915\u0928 – avlokan) of such a mass campaign (\u0905\u092d\u093f\u092f\u093e\u0928 – abhiyaan) that is gripping whole India for many months.<\/p>\n
India might be on the verge of one of the superpower (\u092e\u0939\u093e\u0936\u0915\u094d\u0924\u093f – mahashakti), however there are some fundamental (\u092e\u094c\u0932\u093f\u0915 – maulik) issues which are holding her back. Issues of mass poverty (\u0928\u093f\u0930\u094d\u0927\u0928\u0924\u093e – nirdhanta), illiteracy (\u0928\u093f\u0930\u0915\u094d\u0937\u0930\u0924\u093e – niraksharta), corruption etc. Out of all, I find corruption to be the biggest culprit (\u0926\u094b\u0937\u0940 – doshi). It is corruption, which led to the misuse of funds which would have been used for education (\u0936\u093f\u0915\u094d\u0937\u093e – shiksha) and social welfare (\u0938\u093e\u092e\u093e\u091c\u093f\u0915 \u0915\u0932\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0923 – samajik kalyaan).\u00a0 In India, the corruption has gone even to the grassroots level, affecting the life of a common man.\u00a0It is impossible to get your work done if you do not bribe (\u0930\u093f\u0936\u094d\u0935\u0924 – rishvat) an official. And, if a person complaints (\u0936\u093f\u0915\u093e\u092f\u0924 – shikayaat) about it, he may has to face atrocity. Moreover, in the recent years, there have been many disclosure (\u092d\u0902\u0921\u093e\u092b\u094b\u0921\u093c – bhandafaud) about the mass corruption in the government sector. The amounts involved in the various scams (\u0918\u094b\u091f\u093e\u0932\u0947 – ghotale) were in trillions of dollars. Pathetic response of government (\u0938\u0930\u0915\u093e\u0930 – sarkar) has led the mass level agony in the Indian society (\u0938\u092e\u093e\u091c – samaj) and Indian people (\u091c\u0928\u0924\u093e – janta) were forced to come down to the street to protest.<\/p>\n
Anna Hazare (\u0905\u0928\u094d\u0928\u093e \u0939\u091c\u093e\u0930\u0947), an Indian social reformer (\u0938\u092e\u093e\u091c \u0938\u0941\u0927\u093e\u0930\u0915 – samaj sudharak) and adherent of Gandhian principle, has been leading this mass campaign against corruption and advocating for establishing an strict ombudsman (\u0932\u094b\u0915\u092a\u093e\u0932 – lokpal) for Indian bureaucratic system. This ombudsman is called Jan Lokpal Bill (\u091c\u0928 \u0932\u094b\u0915\u092a\u093e\u0932). The government, in return, proposed a weaker ombudsman. It is wide belief\u00a0 that people mostly, political leaders (\u0928\u0947\u0924\u093e\u0913\u0902 – Netaon) who have been accused a numerous times for the various scams, want to safe-guard themselves.<\/p>\n
In my opinion, it is not just the political leaders who are responsible (\u0909\u0924\u094d\u0924\u0930\u0926\u093e\u092f\u0940 – uttardaayi) but also the people as the leaders come from the people itself. People vote them to represent them. And, when we are talking about the grassroots level corruption, we must not ignore the human tendency of greed (\u0932\u093e\u0932\u091a – lalach). I would just like to rephrase an quote from Mahatma Gandhi that, \u201cBe the change you want to see in the world\u201d<\/p>\n
