The festivals are celebrated round the year, thanks to a hugely diverse culture prevailing in India. And, October is the month of the festivals as the most important festivals falls in this month which includes <em>Navratri<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Dashera<\/em>, and <em>Diwali<\/em> etc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Today, I will tell you about the festival of <em>Dashera<\/em>, a very important festival which is celebrated across India.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Dashera<\/em> (\u0926\u0936\u0939\u0930\u093e &#8211; <em>Dashara<\/em>) comes from Sanskrit words <em>Dasha-Hara<\/em> which means the defeat of ten headed demon (<em>Ravan<\/em>) of Hindu methology. It is celebrated on the tenth day of the Hindu lunar month of\u00a0<em>Ashvin<\/em>\u00a0(\u0905\u0936\u094d\u0935\u093f\u0928) which usually falls in October as per Gregorian calendar.\u00a0In spiritual sense, this signifies the victory of good over evil. In many part of the country, this festival is also\u00a0known as\u00a0<em>Vijayadashami<\/em>\u00a0(\u0935\u093f\u091c\u092f\u093e \u0926\u0936\u092e\u0940). The word,\u00a0<em>Vijaydashami<\/em>, is derived from Sanskrit words,\u00a0<em>Vijay<\/em>\u00a0(Victory) and\u00a0<em>Dashami<\/em>\u00a0(Tenth Day) and combined they signify the tenth day of \u00a0the month of\u00a0<em>Ashvin\u00a0<\/em>on which Lord\u00a0Ram, the seventh avatar of Vishnu,\u00a0has defeated\u00a0<em>Ravan<\/em>\u00a0(\u0930\u093e\u0935\u0923), a demon king from Hindu mythology.\u00a0The entire narrative of events is recorded in the epic\u00a0<em>Ramayana<\/em>\u00a0(\u0930\u093e\u092e\u093e\u092f\u0923), a Hindu scripture. This festival also marks the festival of Diwali which falls after 19-20 days after it which signify the return of home of Lord Ram to\u00a0Ayodha, an ancient city in North India, after defeating\u00a0<em>Ravan<\/em>\u00a0and a long exile of 14 years. \u00a0Diwali is the biggest festival of India which mark the return of Lord Ram in the evening and his welcome by the residents of Ayodhya who lit their city with lamps (called Deepak or Diya ). Since then, this day is celebrated as Deepawali (\u0926\u0940\u092a\u093e\u0935\u0932\u0940) or Diwali (\u0926\u0940\u0935\u093e\u0932\u0940).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This festival also marks the end of\u00a0<em>Ram Lila<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>(\u0930\u093e\u092e \u0932\u0940\u0932\u093e), the\u00a0dramatic re-enactment of the life of\u00a0Lord Ram which also describe ten day battle between\u00a0Lord Ram\u00a0and\u00a0Ravan, as described in the\u00a0Hindu\u00a0religious\u00a0epic, the\u00a0<em>Ramayana<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On this festival, people goes to temples and many performs Havan (rituals) to get rid of 10 bad qualities or negativity from the household just like getting ride of ten headed demon, <em>Ravan<\/em>. The ten heads of Ravan are represented by\u00a0<em>Kama Vasana<\/em> (Lust), <em>Krodha<\/em> (Anger), <em>Moha<\/em> (Delusion), <em>Lobha<\/em> (Greed), <em>Mada<\/em> (Overpride), <em>Matsara<\/em> (Jealousy), <em>Manas<\/em> (Mind), <em>Buddhi<\/em> (Intellect), <em>Chitta<\/em> (Will), <em>Ahankara<\/em> (Ego).
