Let me take you a tour to western India to experience ancient (\u092a\u094d\u0930\u093e\u091a\u0940\u0928<\/span><\/span> – Pracheen) but magnificent (\u092d\u0935\u094d\u092f – Bhavya) piece of ever evolving Indian civilization (\u0938\u092d\u094d\u092f\u0924\u093e<\/span><\/span> – Sabhyata). Let me take you to Ellora with this post and let’s see what we find out there!<\/p>\n

Ellora (\u090f\u0932\u094b\u0930\u093e) is an ancient cave (\u0917\u0941\u092b\u093e – Guphaa) complex located around 29 km (18 miles) North-West of the city of Aurangabad in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Ellora showcases some of the world’s finest rock-cut architecture. Many giant caves (\u0917\u0941\u092b\u093e\u090f\u0902 – Guphaaein) structures were carved out vertically (top to bottom) from Charanandri hills. The caves are adorned (\u0938\u0941\u0936\u094b\u092d\u093f\u0924 – Sushobhit) with exquisite crafted sculptures (\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u092f\u093e\u0902 – Murtiyaan), painting (\u091a\u093f\u0924\u094d\u0930\u0915\u093e\u0930\u0940 – Chitrkaari) and carving with intricate detailing depicting the life and culture (\u0938\u0902\u0938\u094d\u0915\u0943\u0924\u093f – Sanskriti) prevalent during 5th and 9th centuries. Surely, the complex is a marvelous (\u0905\u0926\u094d\u092d\u0941\u0924 – Addhbhut) feat of engineering and craftsmanship.<\/p>\n

There are a total of 34 caves. Out of these, there are 12 Buddhist (caves 1\u201312), 17 Hindu (caves 13\u201329) and 5 Jain (caves 30\u201334) caves. It is a fine example of the religious (\u0927\u093e\u0930\u094d\u092e\u093f\u0915 – Dhaarmik) harmony prevalent during that period of Indian history. The whole complex was built between 5th to 9th century by the Kalachuri, Chalukya and Rashtrakuta dynasties though many believe that the complex is much older.<\/p>\n
