Beginning with Navratri and rolling into Dashahara (also Dussehra or Vijayadashami) and <a href=\"http:\/\/kids.nationalgeographic.com\/explore\/diwali\/#diwali_candles.jpg\">Deepavali<\/a>, a nearly month long festival season ensured a steady stream of holidays, gifts, visits to friends and family, new clothes, and the permission to eat a limitless supply of\u00a0<em>mithaai\u00a0<\/em>(<em>\u092e\u093f\u0920\u093e\u0908<\/em><em> \/<\/em>sweets<em>)<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>namkeen<\/em>\u00a0(<em>\u0928\u092e\u0915\u0940\u0928<\/em><em> \/<\/em>savory snacks<em>)<\/em>.
