{"id":5238,"date":"2016-10-20T04:41:43","date_gmt":"2016-10-20T04:41:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/hindi\/?p=5238"},"modified":"2018-07-31T13:56:11","modified_gmt":"2018-07-31T13:56:11","slug":"festivals-and-mithaai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/hindi\/festivals-and-mithaai\/","title":{"rendered":"Festivals &#8230; and Mithaai!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I was growing up in India, the fall season was always my favorite time of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Once the monsoons had tapered off, typically marked by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/indiatoday.intoday.in\/story\/what-is-ganesh-chaturthi-why-is-it-celebrated\/1\/475604.html\">Ganesh\u00a0<\/a><em><a href=\"http:\/\/indiatoday.intoday.in\/story\/what-is-ganesh-chaturthi-why-is-it-celebrated\/1\/475604.html\">visarjan<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(\u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936 \u0935\u093f\u0938\u0930\u094d\u091c\u0928\/immersion of Ganesh idols), it was time to look forward to cooler and shorter days.<\/p>\n<p>However, the barely imperceptible shift to decreasing temperatures was not as much the highlight as was the chain of festivals that would mark this time of the year. Beginning with Navratri and rolling into Dashahara (also Dussehra or Vijayadashami) and <a href=\"http:\/\/kids.nationalgeographic.com\/explore\/diwali\/#diwali_candles.jpg\">Deepavali<\/a>, a nearly month long festival season ensured a steady stream of holidays, gifts, visits to friends and family, new clothes, and the permission to eat a limitless supply of\u00a0<em>mithaai\u00a0<\/em>(<em>\u092e\u093f\u0920\u093e\u0908<\/em><em> \/<\/em>sweets<em>)<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>namkeen<\/em>\u00a0(<em>\u0928\u092e\u0915\u0940\u0928<\/em><em> \/<\/em>savory snacks<em>)<\/em>.
