I never fail to get amused by visitors&#8217; accounts of the omnipresent cow \u0917\u093e\u092f <i>(gaay)\u00a0<\/i>in the most unexpected locations \u091c\u0917\u0939 (<i>jug-uh)<\/i>\u00a0in India. However, to those who have grown up in India, these are daily sights \u0926\u0948\u0928\u093f\u0915 \u0926\u0943\u0936\u094d\u092f <i>(dye-nik drishya)<\/i>\u00a0.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The cow is considered a holy \u092a\u093e\u0935\u0928 <i>(paa-vun)<\/i>\u00a0creature by India&#8217;s mostly Hindu population.\u00a0 As such, to feed this divine creature is considered a noble task that brings goodwill \u092a\u0941\u0923\u094d\u092f <i>(poonya)<\/i>\u00a0and good fortune \u0905\u091a\u094d\u091b\u0947 \u092d\u093e\u0917\u094d\u092f <i>(acche bhaagya)<\/i> \u00a0. In the early mornings, you may have noticed cows resting, tethered, and positioned strategically on sidewalks and near busy streets or street corners. Bundles of long grass lie piled next to them, behind which sits a handler\/cow owner.
