The temple is open to all castes, genders and religions. It is not just a place of worship. Seminars in nutrition, spirituality, literacy and housing for the poor are also provided. Basically, it’s a place offering not just spiritual guidance, but the tools and resources to better oneself.

The Laxminarayan Temple(श्रीलक्ष्मीनारायणमन्दिर) was built to honor the goddess of wealth, Laxmi (लक्ष्मी). The Temple houses shrines to various other gods. Although it is primarily a Hindu temple, there is also a shrine for the Buddha. In true fashion to the goddess of wealth, there is also a large water fountain and a garden.

The Shri Swaminarayan Templein(श्री स्वामीनारायण मन्दिर) in Ahmedabad (अहमदाबाद) is in the city of Gujarat (गुजरात). The construction of the temple was financed by the British.
