Different regions have their own variations of the classic <strong>\u091a\u093e\u092f<\/strong>, such as the Tibetan butter tea popular in places like Dharmshala (where the Dalai Lama lives) and the Bengali <strong>\u0932\u093e\u0932 \u091a\u093e\/\u09b2\u09be\u09b2 \u099a\u09be<\/strong>, which is made with black tea (called &#8220;red tea&#8221; because of the appealing red color of the tea leaves steeping in hot water) combined with milk and sugar, but you are unlikely to find most &#8220;exotic&#8221; variations in Indian restaurants in the States.<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u0932\u0938\u094d\u0938\u0940<\/strong> : Lassi is a thick, yogurt or curd-based (<strong>\u0926\u0939\u0940<\/strong>, masc.) drink that can take on a variety of flavors. This is a good vegetarian option, but for those who are carnivorous, <strong>chicken \u091f\u093f\u0915\u094d\u0915\u093e \u092e\u0938\u093e\u0932\u093e<\/strong> is also a good option.<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u0906\u0932\u0942 \u0917\u094b\u092c\u0940<\/strong>: another vegetarian dish. It consists of sauteed <strong>\u0906\u0932\u0942<\/strong> or potatoes and <strong>\u0917\u094b\u092c\u0940<\/strong> or cauliflower, cooked in <strong>\u0918\u0940<\/strong>\/ghee (clarified butter) and a mixture of spices and often coriander (<strong>\u0927\u0928\u093f\u092f\u093e<\/strong>). It is a hearty dish perfect for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike.<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u092a\u0930\u093e\u0920\u093e<\/strong>: a popular side dish of thick, unleavened bread with layers throughout it often made from wheat flour or <strong>\u0906\u091f\u093e<\/strong>\/aataa, as opposed to <strong>\u092e\u0948\u0926\u093e<\/strong> or white flour, which is much less healthy but can be made into some particularly tasty parathas as well. It is common for North Indians to choose a variety of bread such as naan, chapati, roti or paratha to break into pieces with their fingers and scoop up the flavorful curries on their plate.
