In English, causative verbs are things that allow someone to do something (Judy let me walk her dog), force someone to do something (My mother made me clean my room), or to convince someone to do something (The doctor got the patient to take the vaccine). In Hindi, there are also causative verbs in which an action is ’caused’ to happen through an agent. For example the Hindi word meaning “to drive” (\u091a\u0932\u093e\u0928\u093e<\/strong>) would be “to get driven” (\u091a\u0932\u0935\u093e\u0928\u093e<\/strong>)\u00a0when converted to a causative verb. To form the causative ending, drop the \u0928\u093e<\/strong> of the infinitive verb and add \u0935\u093e\u0928\u093e<\/strong> to the stem of the verb.<\/p>\n

Examples:<\/p>\n

To do: \u0915\u0930\u0928\u093e<\/strong><\/p>\n

To get done: \u0915\u0930\u0935\u093e\u0928\u093e<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sample Sentence:<\/p>\n

He got the work done: \u0909\u0938\u0928\u0947 \u0915\u093e\u092e \u0915\u0930\u0935\u093e\u092f\u093e<\/strong><\/p>\n

Notice how the verb \u0915\u0930\u0935\u093e\u092f\u093e<\/strong> ends in \u092f\u093e<\/strong> and not \u0928\u093e<\/strong><\/p>\n

To send: \u092d\u0947\u091c\u0928\u093e<\/strong><\/p>\n

To cause to send: \u092d\u0947\u091c\u0935\u093e\u0928\u093e<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sample Sentence:<\/p>\n

She caused everyone to go home: \u0909\u0938\u0928\u0947 \u0938\u092c\u0915\u094b \u0918\u0930 \u092d\u093f\u091c\u0935\u093e\u092f\u093e<\/strong><\/p>\n
