Mumbai is a commercial hub \u0935\u093e\u0923\u093f\u091c\u094d\u092f\u093f\u0915 \u0915\u0947\u0902\u0926\u094d\u0930, attracting people from different \u0905\u0932\u0917 parts of the nation \u0930\u093e\u0937\u094d\u091f\u094d\u0930. When people of different cultures and languages live together they create new cultures and languages. The Tapori language is one such language with its own culture.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Mumbai the Tossed Salad<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>It is a privilege \u0938\u094c\u092d\u093e\u0917\u094d\u092f\u00a0 to grow up in Mumbai as one is able to learn many languages. One learns not only English and Hindi but other \u0905\u0928\u094d\u092f languages such as Marathi, Gujarati, the Gujarati-Persian dialect \u092c\u094b\u0932\u0940 spoken by Parsis and various other Indian languages. After all, Mumbai is a tossed salad bowl, not a melting pot and all these wonderful \u0905\u0926\u094d\u200d\u092d\u0941\u0924 cultures and languages while holding its own as a standalone ingredient, together add flavor \u0938\u094d\u0935\u093e\u0926 and fullness \u092a\u0930\u093f\u092a\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0923\u0924\u093e to the salad that is Mumbai.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Tapori Language<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>These languages gave rise to a language that is native \u092e\u0942\u0932 to Mumbai only through their interaction \u092c\u093e\u0924\u091a\u0940\u0924.\u00a0 This language is called Tapori \u091f\u092a\u094b\u0930\u0940.\u00a0 You cannot find the Tapori language anywhere else in India or for that matter in textbooks \u092a\u093e\u0920\u094d\u092f\u092a\u0941\u0938\u094d\u0924\u0915\u094b\u0902. The reason is because it is a mixture \u092e\u093f\u0936\u094d\u0930\u0923 of words and phrases from different languages.<\/p>\n<p>Tapori originated \u0909\u0924\u094d\u092a\u0924\u094d\u0924\u093f from the Marathi language and is a mixture of Marathi, Gujarati and of course Hindi.\u00a0 It means &#8216;blossomed&#8217; or &#8216;fully fertile&#8217; in the Marathi language. However, it means \u2018hoodlum\u2019 \u092c\u0926\u092e\u093e\u0936, and \u2018good for nothing\u2019 when in use in Mumbai. It is generally not looked upon favorably \u0905\u0928\u0941\u0915\u0942\u0932 by the upper classes \u0909\u091a\u094d\u091a \u0935\u0930\u094d\u0917 \u00a0of Mumbai society \u0938\u092e\u093e\u091c.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Tapori Culture<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The underlying \u0905\u0902\u0924\u0930\u094d\u0928\u093f\u0939\u093f\u0924 connotations \u0905\u0930\u094d\u0925 associated with Tapori, is that those who speak it are cool and well versed \u0905\u091a\u094d\u091b\u0940 \u0924\u0930\u0939 \u0938\u0947 \u0928\u093f\u092a\u0941\u0923 \u00a0with the ways of the street.<\/p>\n<p>A distinct \u0935\u093f\u0936\u093f\u0937\u094d\u091f culture accompanies this language in the form \u0930\u0942\u092a of Tapori style. Kids adopt this language deliberately to reveal a toughness that they need to survive the streets.<\/p>\n<p>Educated \u0936\u093f\u0915\u094d\u0937\u093f\u0924 people also speak Tapori in the marketplaces \u092c\u093e\u091c\u093e\u0930\u094b\u0902 as they haggle \u092e\u094b\u0932-\u092d\u093e\u0935 \u0915\u0930\u0928\u093e with shopkeepers over prices. It looks like it is more accepting \u0938\u094d\u0935\u0940\u0915\u093e\u0930 of street talk and street style now.\u00a0 We remember \u092f\u093e\u0926 \u00a0 Sanjay Dutt, the famous Bollywood actor, for his famous Tapori character Munnabhai in the movie, Munnabhai MBBS. Also, as an audience \u0926\u0930\u094d\u0936\u0915 we love\u00a0 Ranbir Kapoor for his role as a Tapori in Besharam.<\/p>\n<p>Tapori is therefore here to stay.
