You use genitive numbers when telling how old you are. For example, “\u00e9g er tuttugu og eins \u00e1ra gamall”. That’s just what I was taught, unfortunately I don’t know why you do it. You also use genitive when talking about degrees, “4\u00b0C – fj\u00f6gurra stiga hiti” and “-2\u00b0C – tveggja stiga frost”.<\/p>\n

Exception: tv\u00edtugur (adjective) is used to mean someone is twenty years old. (If you’re talking about a female, you’d use “tv\u00edtug”.)<\/p>\n

Einu sinni, once. (here’s something to let you remember this)<\/a> and here are the lyrics plus just the song<\/a>.

\n\u00derisvar (sinnum), thrice.

\nFimm sinnum, five times.<\/p>\n

Ordinal numbers:<\/strong>
\nThese are the numbers like “first, second, fifteenth” that we use for floors numbers and dates. If you know the cardinal numbers, which are the regular type of numbers, then you can recognize which numbers here are which.<\/p>\n

First: fyrsti (declines to firsta)
\nSecond: annar (karlkyn) \/ \u00f6nnur (kvenkyn) \/ anna\u00f0 (hvorugkyn)
\nThird: \u00feri\u00f0ji (declines to \u00feri\u00f0ja)
