These\u00a0phrases are\u00a0sometimes used interchangeably. &#8220;Hari bersyukur&#8221; has more nuance in\u00a0terms\u00a0of\u00a0expressing emotion.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to explain the\u00a0concept\u00a0to Indonesians, you can refer to\u00a0Thanksgiving as &#8220;Selametan&#8221; or &#8220;Syukuran.&#8221; Even though it is not held nationally like in the U.S, it serves the same purpose, which\u00a0is to give thanks to God or Allah the sacred and the mighty (SWT) for\u00a0life events\u00a0or\u00a0milestones, such as school graduation, childbirth, wedding anniversary, and successful company sales.<\/p>\n<p>In the selametan event, &#8220;nasi tumpeng,&#8221; a yellow rice platter in the shape of an inverted cone, is served as the main part of the ceremony. The peak of the ceremony is marked by\u00a0the\u00a0instance\u00a0when\u00a0the top of the yellow rice platter\u00a0is cut, which\u00a0is\u00a0known as &#8220;memotong tumpeng,&#8221; by the head of the\u00a0household or the head of a department.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/indonesian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2015\/11\/IcoNYCa_ThanksgivingTurkey-2.jpg\" aria-label=\"IcoNYCa ThanksgivingTurkey 2 300x221\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1258\"  alt=\"IcoNYCa_ThanksgivingTurkey (2)\" width=\"411\" height=\"303\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/indonesian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2015\/11\/IcoNYCa_ThanksgivingTurkey-2-300x221.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Like a Thanksgiving menu that has turkey as the main dish, in the selametan, yellow rice in the shape of an inverted cone is the main dish.
