Now, it is another twist of Indonesia&#8217;s electoral democracy. The Indonesian House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) passed a controversial bill to scrap Indonesian citizens\u2019 right to vote for their local leaders (Pilkada langsung): Mayor and Governor. The system that made someone like\u00a0<a title=\"Who is Joko Widodo\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rappler.com\/world\/regions\/asia-pacific\/indonesia\/62599-who-is-jokowi\">Joko Widodo<\/a>, now president-elect, who is not part of a political elite to emerge.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/indonesian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2014\/10\/10462770_805975069414720_2507034151250652818_n.jpg\" aria-label=\"10462770 805975069414720 2507034151250652818 N 300x158\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-226\"  alt=\"10462770_805975069414720_2507034151250652818_n\" width=\"276\" height=\"145\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/indonesian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2014\/10\/10462770_805975069414720_2507034151250652818_n-300x158.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/indonesian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2014\/10\/thCXJMKWKM.jpg\" aria-label=\"ThCXJMKWKM\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-232\"  alt=\"thCXJMKWKM\" width=\"216\" height=\"144\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/indonesian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2014\/10\/thCXJMKWKM.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the election system, which was used during the Suharto-era, it is the legislative council at the provincial or regional level (DPRD) who elect the local leaders. And why the DPR made this sudden change? Critics suggest that it is actually a Prabowo revenge to sabotage the president-elect after losing in the July 9 presidential elections, as well as in subsequent attempts to challenge its results. And it is a way to undermine the new president-elect.\u00a0\u00a0Moreover, it is the coalition of Prabowo&#8217;s political parties in the legislature, the &#8220;Koalisi Merah Putih&#8221; or Red and White coalition that pushed the Bill.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/cdn0-e.production.liputan6.com\/medias\/708137\/big\/koalisi.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"244\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Is there a way to stop the bill to become a law?
