This phrase shows the way to compare adjectives in Indonesian. Another example is \u201c<strong>Rumah saya lebih jauh dari stasiun kereta api daripada rumah Ibu saya<\/strong>\u201d\u2014\u201cMy house is farther from train statiun than my mother&#8217;s.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(Note that the first \u201c<strong>dari<\/strong>\u201dmeans \u201c<strong>from<\/strong>\u201d in the example, while the second \u201c<strong>daripada<\/strong>\u201d corresponds to English \u201c<strong>than<\/strong>\u201d).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n<table style=\"height: 108px\" width=\"605\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"154\">Hotel itu <strong>lebih<\/strong> dekat ke stasiun kareta api\u00a0<strong>daripada<\/strong> ke Bandar udara.<\/td>\n<td width=\"151\"><em>That hotel is closer to the train station than to the airport.<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>Lebih<\/strong> can be preceded by the word <strong>jauh<\/strong> (far) to emphasize a comparison.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n<table style=\"height: 108px\" width=\"606\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"151\">Buah ini j<strong>auh<\/strong> <strong>lebih<\/strong> mahal <strong>daripada<\/strong> buah itu.<\/td>\n<td width=\"155\"><em>These fruits are far more expensive than those fruits.<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>Kurang<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u201c<strong>Kurang<\/strong> \u201cmeans less, lacking, insufficient or not enough.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In bargaining, the phrase \u201cboleh <strong>kurang<\/strong>?\u201d means \u201c<strong>could you lower the price<\/strong>?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, \u201csaya <strong>kurang<\/strong> mengerti\u201d means \u201c<strong>I don\u2019t understand<\/strong>\u201d which also means \u201csaya <strong>tidak <\/strong>mengerti\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n<table style=\"height: 119px\" width=\"608\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"145\">Nasi goreng ini\u00a0 ini <strong>kurang<\/strong>\u00a0pedas.<\/td>\n<td width=\"160\"><em>This friend rice is not hot spicy enough.<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"145\">Barbeque itu <strong>kurang<\/strong> enak.<\/td>\n<td width=\"160\"><em>That barbeque is not delicious (enough).<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Kurang-lebih<\/strong> means more or less. People use \u201c<strong>kurang-lebih<\/strong>\u201d or \u201c<strong>kira-kira<\/strong>\u201d to tell an approximate number or quantity.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Se + adjective<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The English comparison with \u201cas+ adjective +as\u201d or \u201cthe same as + adjective\u201d is expressed either by\u00a0 \u201c<strong>se + <\/strong>adjective \u201d or \u201c<strong>sama <\/strong>+ adjective<strong> (nya) dengan \u2026.<\/strong>\u201d in Indonesian.
