Good morning, readers! Bom dia, leitores! Let’s look into some phrasal verbs today?

Se vocês estão estudando inglês há algum tempo, com certeza já cruzaram em algum momento com os tais de phrasal verbs. Embora eles possam ser intimidantes à princípio, não há nada a temer! Os phrasal verbs não passam de um verbo que vem acompanhado de uma partícula (no caso, uma preposição ou advérbio) que altera seu sentido. Por exemplo: give up, turn off, break up. Viu só como é simples? Aqui mesmo no blog já falamos muito deles (confira os related posts no final da página). A lista de phrasal verbs é interminável, então o melhor a se fazer é tentar aprender aos poucos e praticar sempre. 

Hoje então vamos começar vendo alguns phrasal verbs com o verbo look. So let’s look over them?

LOOK AFTER – cuidar de algo ou alguém temporariamente

  • My sister has three children. It’s hard to look after them all day | Minha irmã tem três filhos. É difícil tomar conta deles o dia inteiro
  • While I was traveling to the beach, my neighbor looked after my dog for me | Quando eu viajei para a praia, meu vizinho cuidou do meu cachorro para mim
  • Will you look after my bag while I go to the bathroom? | Você pode tomar conta da minha bolsa enquanto eu vou ao banheiro? 

LOOK AT – olhar para algo, examinar algo ou alguém

  • What are you looking at? | O que você está olhando?
  • Look at that bird! It’s so beautiful! | Olhe aquele pássaro! É tão lindo!
  • Don’t look at me like that, I’m very shy. | Não olhe para mim desse jeito, eu sou muito tímido.

LOOK FOR – procurar por algo ou alguém, tentar encontrar

  • Can you help me look for my keys? I don’t know where I put them. | Você pode me ajudar a procurar minhas chaves? Não sei onde coloquei elas.
  • Where have you been? I spent the whole morning looking for you! | Onde você estava? Passei a manhã inteira procurando por você!
  • My brother is an architect but he is not working at the moment. He is looking for a job .  | Meu irmão é um arquiteto, mas ele não está trabalhando no momento. Ele está procurando emprego.

LOOK FORWARD TO – estar ansioso para algo que vai acontecer, ter boas expectativas

  • My son is looking forward to his birthday because we’re having a big party. | Meu filho está ansioso para o aniversário dele porque vamos dar uma grande festa.
  • I am really looking forward to my vacation in Paris. | Estou muito ansiosa para minhas férias em Paris.  
  • Are you looking forward to the weekend? | Você está empolgado para o fim de semana?

LOOK UP – consultar, procurar uma informação

  • If you don’t know what a word means, look it up in the dictionary. | Se você não sabe o significado de uma palavra, consulte um dicionário
  • I want to order pizza. Can you look up their phone number on the internet? | Quero pedir pizza. Pode consultar o telefone deles na internet?
  • I don’t know the hotel address, but I will look it up. | Eu não sei o endereço do hotel, mas vou consultar.
