Alguns exemplos:<\/p>\n<p><em>The lunar eclipse was a <strong>dramatic <\/strong>event.<\/em> (O eclipse lunar foi um acontecimento extraordin\u00e1rio.)<br \/>\n<em>They made <strong>dramatic <\/strong>improvements at the school.<\/em> (Fizeram melhoras acentuadas na escola.)<\/p>\n<p>Da mesma forma, o adv\u00e9rbio <strong>dramatically <\/strong>tamb\u00e9m leva este significado:<\/p>\n<p><em>They reduced <strong>dramatically <\/strong>the salary of the employees.<\/em> (Reduziram consideravelmente o sal\u00e1rio dos empregados.)<br \/>\n<em>Their new teaching methods have <strong>dramatically <\/strong>improved the school results<\/em>. (Novos m\u00e9todos de ensino melhoraram drasticamente os resultados da nossa escola.)<\/p>\n<p>Nosso pr\u00f3ximo falso cognato \u00e9 <strong>graphic<\/strong>. Para dizer gr\u00e1fico, no sentido de tabela, dizemos <em>table <\/em>ou <em>chart<\/em>. Agora, <strong>graphic <\/strong>\u00e9 um adjetivo que, al\u00e9m de significar gr\u00e1fico, algo relativo \u00e0 imagem, tamb\u00e9m indica que algo \u00e9 chocante ou expl\u00edcito. Vejamos alguns exemplos:<\/p>\n<p><em>The website has <strong>graphic <\/strong>photos of the casualties.<\/em> (O site tem fotos expl\u00edcitas dos mortos.)<br \/>\n<em>That movie has <strong>graphic <\/strong>violence and <strong>graphic <\/strong>sex.<\/em> (Aquele filme tem viol\u00eancia e sexo expl\u00edcitos.)<\/p>\n<p>Da mesma forma usamos o adv\u00e9rbio <strong>graphically<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>The book describes, <strong>graphically<\/strong>, how the victims were killed.<\/em> (O livro descreve, explicitamente, como as v\u00edtimas foram mortas.)<\/p>\n<p>Temos de ter muito cuidado ao traduzir a palavra <strong>humans<\/strong>. De in\u00edcio pensamos em humanos, mas uma boa op\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 traduzir como &#8220;as pessoas&#8221;, &#8220;o homem&#8221; ou &#8220;o ser humano&#8221;. Agora, o adjetivo <strong>humane <\/strong>n\u00e3o \u00e9 o adjetivo humano e sim &#8220;humanit\u00e1rio&#8221;, aquilo ou aquele que promove o bem-estar do homem.\u00a0 Da mesma forma usamos o adv\u00e9rbio <strong>humanely<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Those animals receive <strong>humane <\/strong>treatment. <\/em>(Aqueles animais recebem tratamento humanit\u00e1rio.)<br \/>\n<em>The prisoners are being treated <strong>humanely<\/strong>.<\/em> (Os prisoneiros est\u00e3o sendo tratados com respeito.)<\/p>\n<p>Nosso \u00faltimo falso cognato \u00e9 <strong>deputy<\/strong>, que quer dizer representante, algu\u00e9m que substitui outra pessoa em alguma atividade. Alguns exemplos:<\/p>\n<p><em>If the president of the company is absent, the vice president will be his deputy<\/em>. (Se o presidente da empresa estiver ausente, o vice ser\u00e1 seu representante.)<br \/>\n<em>He turned over his social responsibilities to a trusted deputy. <\/em>(Ela delegou seus compromissos sociais a um representante de confian\u00e7a.)<\/p>\n<p><em>This is it for today, people!
