A\u00a0inversion <\/em>acontece quando usamos adv\u00e9rbios negativos no in\u00edcio da frase, em forma de pergunta, para dar \u00eanfase ao que vai ser dito. Veja alguns exemplos:<\/p>\n

Nunca ouvi uma desculpa mais esfarrapada!
\nFrase com inversion: Never have I heard a weaker excuse!<\/em>
\nFrase normal: I have never heard a weaker excuse!<\/em><\/p>\n

Perceba que a posi\u00e7\u00e3o das palavras indica que \u00e9 uma pergunta, que na verdade \u00e9 somente uma forma de enfatizar o que est\u00e1 sendo dito. Mais alguns exemplos:<\/p>\n

Rarely can a minister have been faced with such a problem.<\/em> – Raramente um ministro tem que enfrentar tal problema.
\nSeldom has the team given a worse performance. <\/em>– O time raramente teve um desempenho pior.
\nRarely had I had so much responsibility.<\/em> – Eu raramente tinha tido tanta responsabilidade.
\nHardly had the train left the station, when there was an explosion.<\/em> – O trem mal tinha sa\u00eddo da esta\u00e7\u00e3o quando aconteceu a explos\u00e3o.
\nScarcely had I entered the room when the phone rang.<\/em> – Eu mal tinha entrado quando o telefone tocou.
\nNo sooner had I reached the door than I realised it was locked. <\/em>– Eu mal tinha chegado \u00e0 porta quando percebi que estava trancada.
\nNo sooner was the team back on the pitch than it started raining.<\/em> – O time mal tinha chegado \u00e0 quadra quando come\u00e7ou a chover.
\nOnly after posting the letter did I remember that I had forgotten to put on a stamp.<\/em> – S\u00f3 depois de colocar a carta na caixa do correio que eu me lembrei de que tinha me esquecido de colocar um selo.
\nOn no condition are they to open fire without a warning.<\/em> – De jeito nenhum eles devem abrir fogo sem um aviso.
\nNot until I got home did I notice that I had the wrong umbrella.<\/em> – S\u00f3 quando cheguei em casa percebi que eu estava com o guarda-chuva errado.
\nLittle does she know what’s happening.<\/em> – Ela mal sabe o que est\u00e1 acontecendo.<\/p>\n

A inversion <\/em>tamb\u00e9m acontece em frases condicionais.<\/p>\n

Se eles fossem escapar, haveria um protesto.
\nIf they were to escape, there would be an outcry.
\nWere they to escape, there would be an outcry.<\/em><\/p>\n

Se a pol\u00edcia tivesse descoberto, eu estaria encrencado.
\nIf the police had found out, I would have been in trouble.
\nWere the police to have found out, I would have been in trouble.<\/em><\/p>\n

Se voc\u00ea por acaso ouvir algo, me avise.
\nIf you should hear anything, let me know.
\nShould you hear anything, let me know.<\/em><\/p>\n

Se ele trapaceou, ele ter\u00e1 de ser punido.
\nIf he has cheated, he will have to be punished.
\nShould he have cheated, he will have to be punished.<\/em><\/p>\n

Se eu tivesse sabido, teria protestado veementemente.
\nIf I had known, I would have protested strongly.
\nHad I known, I would have protested strongly.<\/em><\/p>\n
