We don\u2019t usually use the with people\u2019s names and with countries, continents, regions, states, provinces, islands, cities, towns and mountains.<\/p>\n<p>Examples: <em>Africa, Europe, South America, New York, California, Miami, Everest<\/em>. (not <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through\">the Africa, the Europe<\/span>, etc.).<\/p>\n<p>However, if we are talking about Republic, States, Kingdom or a group of islands, we use <em>the<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>The United States<br \/>\nThe Soviet Republic<br \/>\nThe United Kingdom<br \/>\nThe Caribbean<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>2. When don\u2019t use <em>the <\/em>with titles (Mr., Mrs., Doctor, etc.)<\/p>\n<p><em>Mr. Smith came to my house this evening.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>3. With <em>Mount <\/em>and <em>Lake <\/em>(+name)  we don\u2019t use <em>the <\/em>either.<\/p>\n<p><em>I went to the lake with my boyfriend.<br \/>\nI went to Lake Superior with my boyfriend.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>4. <em>The <\/em>is used with the names of oceans, seas, canals and rivers.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Pacific (ocean)<br \/>\nThe Red (sea)<br \/>\nThe Nile (river)<br \/>\nThe Suez (canal)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>5.
