Os tr\u00eas verbos do t\u00edtulo podem ser traduzidos como “dever” e cada um deles tem usos pr\u00f3prios. J\u00e1 falamos sobre o verbo should <\/strong>aqui no blog <\/a>e hoje vamos ampliar o assunto.<\/p>\n

Should <\/strong>e ought to<\/strong> s\u00e3o usados para expressar obriga\u00e7\u00e3o moral, conselho, recomenda\u00e7\u00e3o, dever. Veja alguns exemplos:<\/p>\n

You look kind of sick. You should \/ ought to<\/strong> see a doctor.<\/em>
\nVoc\u00ea parece meio doente. Voc\u00ea deveria ir ao m\u00e9dico.<\/p>\n

I know I should \/ ought to<\/strong> study, but I’m so tired…<\/em>
\nSei que deveria estudar, mas estou t\u00e3o cansado…<\/p>\n

Must <\/strong>\u00e9 usado para expressar obriga\u00e7\u00e3o forte, ordem, necessidade. Com esse sentido, tamb\u00e9m podemos usar have\/has to<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I’m too fat. I must \/ have to<\/strong> lose weight.<\/em>
\nEstou gordo demais. Tenho que\/Devo perder peso.<\/p>\n

O uso de must <\/strong>e should\/ought to<\/strong> depende do que queremos expressar. Por exemplo, se formos ao m\u00e9dico e ele vir que estamos quase tendo um ataque card\u00edaco causado pelo excesso de cigarro ele vai dizer:<\/p>\n

You must stop smoking!<\/em><\/p>\n

Agora se o m\u00e9dico nos der somente um conselho amig\u00e1vel ele vai dizer:<\/p>\n

You should <\/strong>stop smoking, it’s not good for your health.<\/em><\/p>\n

Se quisermos expressar uma obriga\u00e7\u00e3o no passado usamos had to<\/strong> em vez de must<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I had to work on the weekend.<\/em>
\nTive que trabalhar no fim de semana.<\/p>\n

O uso das formas negativas must not (mustn’t)<\/strong> e do not (don’t) \/ does not (doesn’t) have to<\/strong> tamb\u00e9m \u00e9 diferente. Mustn’t<\/strong> indica uma proibi\u00e7\u00e3o e don’t\/doesn’t have to<\/strong> indica falta de obriga\u00e7\u00e3o\/necessidade.<\/p>\n

You mustn’t<\/strong> talk loud in a library.<\/em>
\nVoc\u00ea n\u00e3o pode\/deve falar algo numa biblioteca.<\/p>\n

You don’t have to<\/strong> buy that book. I’ll lend you mine.<\/em>
\nVoc\u00ea n\u00e3o precisa comprar aquele livro. Eu te empresto o meu.<\/p>\n

O verbo must <\/strong>tamb\u00e9m \u00e9 usado para expressar uma conclus\u00e3o l\u00f3gica, dedu\u00e7\u00e3o, algo que deve ser verdade, em face das evid\u00eancias:<\/p>\n

I told her to be there at 7. It’s 7.10, so she must <\/strong>be there.<\/em>
\nEu lhe disse para estar l\u00e1 \u00e0s 7. S\u00e3o 7.10, ent\u00e3o ela deve estar l\u00e1.<\/p>\n

I’ve heard the new secretary used to be a model. She must <\/strong>be beautiful.<\/em>
\nOuvi dizer que a nova secret\u00e1ria era modelo. Ela deve ser bonita.<\/p>\n

Nesse caso o sentido contr\u00e1rio de must <\/strong>\u00e9 can’t<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

She used to be a model, she can’t<\/strong> be ugly.<\/em>
\nEla era modelo, ela n\u00e3o pode ser feia. (\u00e9 improv\u00e1vel)<\/p>\n
