You know?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Declarative sentences\u2014so-\u00ad\u2010called<br \/>\nbecause they used to, like, DECLARE things to be true, okay,<br \/>\nas opposed to other things are, like, totally, you know, not\u2014<br \/>\nhave been infected by a totally hip<br \/>\nand tragically cool interrogative tone? You know?<br \/>\nLike, don\u2019t think I\u2019m uncool just because I\u2019ve noticed this;<br \/>\nthis is just like the word on the street, you know?<br \/>\nIt\u2019s like what I\u2019ve heard?<br \/>\nI have nothing personally invested in my own opinions, okay?<br \/>\nI\u2019m just inviting you to join me in my uncertainty?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">What has happened to our conviction?<br \/>\nWhere are the limbs out on which we once walked?<br \/>\nHave they been, like, chopped down<br \/>\nwith the rest of the rain forest?<br \/>\nOr do we have, like, nothing to say?<br \/>\nHas society become so, like, totally&#8230;<br \/>\nI mean absolutely&#8230; You know?<br \/>\nThat we\u2019ve just gotten to the point where it\u2019s just, like&#8230;<br \/>\nwhatever!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">And so actually our disarticulation&#8230; ness<br \/>\nis just a clever sort of&#8230; thing<br \/>\nto disguise the fact that we\u2019ve become<br \/>\nthe most aggressively inarticulate generation<br \/>\nto come along since&#8230;<br \/>\nyou know, a long, long time ago!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">I entreat you, I implore you, I exhort you,<br \/>\nI challenge you: To speak with conviction.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">To say what you believe in a manner that bespeaks<br \/>\nthe determination with which you believe it.<br \/>\nBecause contrary to the wisdom of the bumper sticker,<br \/>\nit is not enough these days to simply QUESTION AUTHORITY.<br \/>\nYou have to speak with it, too.<\/p>\n<p>Mali.
