Podemos usar as formas:<\/p>\n<p><em>I prefer something <strong>to<\/strong> something else<\/em><br \/>\n<em> I prefer do<strong>ing<\/strong> something <strong>to<\/strong> do<strong>ing<\/strong> something else<\/em><br \/>\n<em> I prefer <strong>to do<\/strong> something rather than <strong>(do)<\/strong> something else<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Exemplos:<\/p>\n<p>I prefer this book to the book you were reading yesterday.<br \/>\n<em>Prefiro este livro ao livro que voc\u00ea estava lendo ontem.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I prefer reading to listening to music.<br \/>\n<em>Prefiro ler a\/do que escutar m\u00fasica.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I prefer to drive rather than take the bus.<br \/>\n<em>Prefiro dirigir do que pegar \u00f4nibus.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>She prefers to live in the country rather than (live) in the city.<br \/>\n<em>Ela prefere morar no interior do que (morar) na cidade.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Would prefer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Usamos <em>would (\u2018d) prefer<\/em> para dizer o que algu\u00e9m quer numa situa\u00e7\u00e3o espec\u00edfica. Na tradu\u00e7\u00e3o nem sempre vamos usar \u201cpreferiria\u201d e sim \u201cprefere\u201d (no presente\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWould you prefer tea or coffee?\u201d \u201cCoffee, please.\u201d<br \/>\n<em>\u201cVoc\u00ea prefere ch\u00e1 ou caf\u00e9?\u201d \u201cCaf\u00e9, por favor.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d prefer to go by train rathen than drive.<br \/>\n<em>Prefiro ir de trem do que ir de carro.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Would rather<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Would rather<\/em> quer dizer a mesma coisa que <em>would prefer.<\/em> Usamos <em>would rather<\/em> sem a preposi\u00e7\u00e3o <em>to<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t want to go by train. I\u2019d rather drive.<br \/>\n<em>N\u00e3o quero ir de trem. Prefiro dirigir.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Would you rather have tea of coffee?<br \/>\n<em>Voc\u00ea prefere tomar ch\u00e1 ou caf\u00e9?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A forma negativa \u00e9 <em>\u201cI\u2019d rather not\u201d<\/em> + o verbo sem a preposi\u00e7\u00e3o to.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d rather not go out this evening. I\u2019m way too tired.<br \/>\n<em>Prefiro n\u00e3o sair hoje \u00e0 noite. Estou cansad\u00edssimo.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d rather stay home tonight than go to the movies.<br \/>\n<em>Prefiro ficar em casa hoje \u00e0 noite do que ir ao cinema.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>I\u2019d rather + verbo no passado<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Veja como fica a tradu\u00e7\u00e3o das frases quando o verbo depois de <em>would rather<\/em> vem no passado.<\/p>\n<p>You shouldn\u2019t stay here.
