O verbo <\/span><b>afford<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> na l\u00edngua inglesa \u00e9 um daqueles verbos que podem ser usados em muitas situa\u00e7\u00f5es diferentes, mas que n\u00e3o possui exatamente uma tradu\u00e7\u00e3o precisa para o portugu\u00eas. Nosso voo sai \u00e0s 10h e n\u00e3o <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">podemos<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> perder mais tempo)<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No primeiro exemplo, podemos entender que <\/span><b>afford<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> funciona para expressar n\u00e3o ter dinheiro ou condi\u00e7\u00f5es financeiras para arcar com algo. J\u00e1 que o custo do apartamento \u00e9 alto, a pessoa n\u00e3o pode <\/span><b>afford<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (dar conta de pagar, bancar a despesa) e precisa procurar outro. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mas n\u00e3o \u00e9 s\u00f3 isso. No segundo caso, n\u00e3o estamos falando exatamente de ter a capacidade de pagar por algo, mas sim de lidar com os custos ou consequ\u00eancias de a\u00e7\u00f5es. As pessoas est\u00e3o provavelmente atrasadas e n\u00e3o podem <\/span><b>afford <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(se dar ao luxo, se permitir) chegar no aeroporto depois do hor\u00e1rio ou v\u00e3o acabar perdendo o voo. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Logo, o verbo <\/span><b>afford<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> pode ter tanto esse sentido de conseguir pagar por algo como tamb\u00e9m de poder deixar que algo negativo aconte\u00e7a.
