Let\u2019s listen and read to some examples:<\/p>\n<p><em>The kids waved as their dad drove away.<\/em> (As crian\u00e7as acenaram enquanto seu pai ia embora.)<br \/>\n<em>I watched her cry as she was packing. She didn\u2019t want to go away.<\/em> (Eu a vi chorar enquanto fazia as malas. Ela n\u00e3o queria ir embora.)<br \/>\n<em>Can you close the door as you go out, please?<\/em> (Pode fechar a porta quando voc\u00ea sair, por favor?)<br \/>\n<em>That old lady tripped as she was getting off the bus.<\/em> (Aquela senhora trope\u00e7ou ao descer do \u00f4nibus.)<br \/>\n<em>I ran into her as I was leaving the hotel.<\/em> (Eu a encontrei quando sa\u00eda do hotel.)<\/p>\n<p>We can emphasize the exact moment when something happened by adding the word \u201cjust\u201d. Examples:<\/p>\n<p><em>Just as I was leaving for work, she called.<\/em> (Ela ligou assim que eu estava saindo para o trabalho.)<br \/>\n<em>I had to go home just as they arrived.<\/em> (Tive que ir para casa assim que eles chegaram.)<\/p>\n<p>The word \u201cas\u201d can also mean \u201cbecause\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><em>As she didn\u2019t come, I decided to go home.<\/em> (Como ela n\u00e3o veio, resolve ir para casa.)<br \/>\n<em>As it was a holiday, we went to the beach for the day.<\/em> (Como era feriado, fomos \u00e0 praia.)<br \/>\n<em>As we have some time left, why don\u2019t we go for a walk before getting back to work?<\/em> (Como temos tempo sobrando, por que n\u00e3o fazemos uma caminhada antes de voltar ao trabalho?)<br \/>\n<em>We played video games all afternoon, as we didn\u2019t have anything better to do.<\/em> (Jogamos video game a tarde toda, pois n\u00e3o t\u00ednhamos nada melhor para fazer.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs\u201d can also mean \u201cin the position of\u201d or \u201cin the same way as or in the same condition as\u201d. Examples:<\/p>\n<p><em>As a teacher, I always want my students to keep a study routine. <\/em>(Como professor, sempre quero que meus alunos mantenham uma rotina de estudos.)<br \/>\n<em>As the manager, he has to make some very hard decisions.<\/em> (Como gerente, ele tem que tomar algumas decis\u00f5es bem dr\u00e1sticas.)<br \/>\n<em>The police didn\u2019t move anything, they left everything as it was. <\/em>(A pol\u00edcia n\u00e3o mexeu em nada, deixaram tudo como estava.)<br \/>\n<em>Do it as I show you.<\/em> (Fa\u00e7a como estou te mostrando.)<\/p>\n<p><em>This is it for today.
