A few years ago, I wrote an Irish blogpost about a gerbil and a hamster; they were describing their cages and saying if they had a hammock or a cubby-hole or a little house or other things like that.\u00a0 (Nasc th\u00edos<\/strong>)\u00a0 Needless to say, there was a little bit of anthropomorphism involved.\u00a0 But not to the extent of the anthropomorphism of authors like Eric Hill, whose \u201cSpot\u201d (\u201cBran<\/strong>\u201d) characters dress up for fancy-dress parties and celebrate holidays like Christmas or Gwyneth Wynn, whose Mic\u00ed agus Teid\u00ed<\/strong> (a dog and a bear), wear wellies, foot the turf, or interview a lion, depending on the story.\u00a0 Naisc th\u00edos do bhlagmh\u00edreanna sa tsraith seo faoi leabhartha na n-\u00fadar sin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Today we\u2019ll revisit the topic of hamsters, but with a more practical aspect \u2013 looking at what foods they can and cannot eat, which \u201cbia<\/strong>\u201d is \u201cs\u00e1bh\u00e1ilte<\/strong>\u201d for them.\u00a0 Many of the same foods are safe for human consumption, but we may draw the line at a few of them, minph\u00e9isteanna, mar shampla<\/strong>.\u00a0 A few may be safe for humans (seacl\u00e1id<\/strong>) but not for hamstair<\/strong>, or, for that matter, for most animals.<\/p>\n
