Some people add \u201cfaoi sh\u00e9an<\/strong>,\u201d which has a similar meaning to \u201cfaoi mhaise<\/strong>.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cS\u00e9an<\/strong>\u201d means \u201csign,\u201d \u201comen,\u201d \u201cgood luck,\u201d and \u201cprosperity.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cFaoi<\/strong>\u201d (under) causes lenition (can\u2019t escape that even on the cusp of the new year), giving us \u201cfaoi sh\u00e9an<\/strong>\u201d (fwee hayn).\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I did once see the second phrase written with a misplaced long mark, that is, the s\u00edneadh fada <\/strong>was over the \u201ca,\u201d not over the \u201ce.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>A rather drastic mistake, showing us the importance of long marks.\u00a0 <\/span>The phrase had been written as \u201cfaoi She\u00e1n<\/strong>,\u201d which would mean \u201cunder Se\u00e1n.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>To which I can only chuckle.\u00a0 <\/span>So on that note, I\u2019ll schedule this blog to appear in the last minute of the old year, in case you want to shout it out loud with your friends or family.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
