Caitr\u00edona Arag\u00f3n<\/b><\/p>\n<p>We could then continue with &#8220;<b>dara bean ch\u00e9ile Anra\u00ed VIII<\/b> (Anne Boleyn)&#8221; &#8220;<strong>tr\u00ed\u00fa<\/strong> <b>bean ch\u00e9ile Anra\u00ed VIII<\/b> (Jane Seymour)&#8221; up to &#8220;<b>s\u00e9\u00fa bean ch\u00e9ile Anra\u00ed VIII<\/b> (Catharine Parr),&#8221; but surely <b>is \u00e1bhar blag eile \u00e9 sin.\u00a0 \u00a0Muna bhfuil t\u00fa ag iarraidh fanacht go dt\u00ed go mbeidh stair ghairid faoi na mn\u00e1 anseo sa bhlag (l\u00e1 den tsaol), b&#8217;fh\u00e9idir gur mhaith leat tos\u00fa le ceann de na leabhartha seo<\/b> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/list\/show\/10071.Best_Books_about_Anne_Boleyn\">http:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/list\/show\/10071.Best_Books_about_Anne_Boleyn<\/a>) <b>n\u00f3 anseo<\/b> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/The-Eternally-Fascinating-Anne-Boleyn\/lm\/RAOKUR308NB1L\">http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/The-Eternally-Fascinating-Anne-Boleyn\/lm\/RAOKUR308NB1L<\/a>).\u00a0 <b>N\u00edos m\u00f3 n\u00e1 daichead leabhar at\u00e1 ann ach n\u00edl a fhios agam an bhfuil ceann ar bith acu i nGaeilge!\u00a0 Ar nd\u00f3igh, n\u00edl ar na liosta\u00ed seo ach leabhartha i mB\u00e9arla.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>You might have noticed in the examples above that the phrase &#8220;<b>an ch\u00e9ad<\/b>&#8221; (&#8220;the first&#8221;) triggers lenition, which causes &#8220;<b>fear<\/b>&#8221; [say &#8220;far,&#8221;\u00a0 like the &#8220;lar&#8221; of &#8220;Larry,&#8221;] to sound like &#8220;ar&#8221; (like the &#8220;-ar-&#8221; of &#8220;Larry&#8221;).\u00a0 In other words, with lenition, the &#8220;f&#8221; of &#8220;<b>fear<\/b>&#8221; becomes &#8220;fh,&#8221; which is silent.\u00a0 So &#8220;<b>fhear<\/b>&#8221; starts out with a vowel sound, not an &#8220;f&#8221; or an &#8220;h&#8221; sound.<\/p>\n<p>But this sound change (lenition), doesn&#8217;t occur after &#8220;<b>dara<\/b>,&#8221; &#8220;<b>tr\u00ed\u00fa<\/b>,&#8221; etc. \u00a0\u00a0So we have:<\/p>\n<p><b>an dara fear<\/b>, the second man<\/p>\n<p><b>an tr\u00ed\u00fa fear<\/b>, the third man (<b>agus sin sc\u00e9al freisin<\/b>!)<\/p>\n<p><b>srl. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Getting back to &#8220;Sunny,&#8221; the Irish for &#8220;The Second Dog of the United States&#8221; would be:<\/p>\n<p><b>Dara Madra na St\u00e1t Aontaithe<\/b><\/p>\n<p>And for &#8220;The Second Dog of the United States <i>of America<\/i>, &#8221; we&#8217;d have:<\/p>\n<p><b>Dara Madra St\u00e1it Aontaithe Mheirice\u00e1 <\/b><\/p>\n<p>If we just say &#8220;the second dog,&#8221; that&#8217;s &#8220;<b>an dara madra<\/b>,&#8221; and if it&#8217;s an official title (why not?), it would be &#8220;<b>An Dara Madra<\/b>&#8221; (capitalized). \u00a0\u00a0That&#8217;s without the &#8220;United States&#8221; part, as described above.<\/p>\n<p>And just as a reminder, if we go back to &#8220;Bo,&#8221; and just want to say &#8220;The First Dog,&#8221; we return to using lenition, &#8220;<b>An Ch\u00e9ad Mhadra.&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n<p>So, at any rate, there we have it, <b>C\u00e9ad Mhadra na St\u00e1t Aontaithe<\/b> and <b>Dara Madra na St\u00e1t Aontaithe<\/b>.\u00a0 And what if we were to do a blog sometime on <b>madra\u00ed na n-uachtar\u00e1n eile?\u00a0 Sin sc\u00e9al.\u00a0 Dh\u00e1 mhadra dh\u00e9ag ag Calvin Coolidge.\u00a0 Deich madra ag John F.
