Finally returning to the uimhreacha pearsanta<\/strong> after the numerous events of the past couple of weeks, both happy and sad ones.\u00a0 <\/span>This time we\u2019ll count from six to ten people, more on larger groups of people later!\u00a0 <\/span>First, a quick review, for one to five people: duine amh\u00e1in <\/strong>or aonar<\/strong> (depending on the type of sentence), beirt, tri\u00far, ceathrar<\/strong> and c\u00faigear.\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong>And, as you may recall, that got us through our discussion of the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, the Jackson 5, and Peter, Paul, and Mary.\u00a0 <\/span>You were testing yourself as you read that list, right? \u00a0<\/span>Here\u2019s the Irish in order of the musical groups just listed: ceathrar, beirt, c\u00faigear, <\/strong>and tri\u00far.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So now on to slightly larger groups of people, your quintets, sextets, septets, octets, nonets, and dectets.\u00a0 <\/span>But keep in mind, that while English has these specific terms for musical<\/em> groups of various sizes, in Irish you\u2019d use c\u00faigear<\/strong> for any<\/em> group of five people, such as five farmers (c\u00faigear feirmeoir\u00ed<\/strong>) or beirt<\/strong> for, say, beirt otairinealaraingeolaithe<\/strong> (two otorhinolaryngologists).\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
