And I’m sure that all “\u00fain\u00e9ir\u00ed madra\u00ed<\/strong>” think that their own “madra<\/strong>” is “go h\u00e1lainn<\/strong>.”\u00a0 But still, we can probably acknowledge that some dogs have more classic proportions and some others, well, the good thing is that dogs don’t have such a sense of “f\u00e9ineacht<\/strong>” as we humans do.<\/p>\n

This year’s winner of the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest is named Quasi Modo, a pit bull\/Dutch shepherd \u00a0mix.\u00a0 Quasi Modo’s key feature is being “sp\u00edonghearr<\/strong>” (short-spined), the result of “anchuma \u00f3 bhroinn<\/strong>.”\u00a0\u00a0 Some say Quasi Modo \u00a0looks like a “hi\u00e9ana<\/strong>” or a “diabhal Tasm\u00e1nach<\/strong>.”\u00a0 And I agree, the comparison is apt.\u00a0 Quasi Modo is “fadchosach”<\/strong> and “dronnach<\/strong>,” i.e. t\u00e1 cuma cruite ar a d(h)roim.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Anyway, it does make me a bit sad that this dog’s malformed spine gains it the label “gr\u00e1nna<\/strong>,” but, well, like I said, dogs probably don’t fully understand that they’re competing for “gr\u00e1nnacht<\/strong>.”\u00a0 Quasi Modo (I keep wanting to just say “Quasi,” but I’m not sure if the owner has adopted a shortened moniker, so I’ll stick with “an t-ioml\u00e1n l\u00e9ir<\/strong>“) looks quite happy and content. \u00a0So comhghairdeas libh, a Quasi Modo is d’\u00fain\u00e9ir (neamhainmnithe sna hailt a l\u00e9igh mise).\u00a0\u00a0 T\u00e9ann $1500 leis an mbua, agus n\u00ed haon d\u00f3ith\u00edn \u00e9 sin.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I think that all the dogs in the show (in fact, all dogs, period) are “gleoite<\/strong>,” and so I would say “gr\u00e1<\/strong>” not “gr\u00e1nna<\/strong>,” and “maisi\u00fail<\/strong>” not “m\u00edofar<\/strong>“!<\/p>\n

Often, the Ugliest Dog winners are “Gliobaigh Sh\u00edneacha<\/strong>,” a breed that seems to strike most of us as “an\u00e1sta<\/strong>,” “sconribeach<\/strong>,” and “m\u00edmhaiseach<\/strong>” \u00a0(not to mention “gr\u00e1nna<\/strong>” and “m\u00edofar<\/strong>“). \u00a0\u00a0Ach bail \u00f3 Dhia orthu, nach cairde d\u00edlse na ndaoine iad na madra\u00ed go l\u00e9ir? <\/strong>At least this year there was some variety to the reign of the Chinese Cresteds in winning this contest.\u00a0 And it’s a good reminder that wonderful pets can be found at a “d\u00eddean ainmhithe<\/strong>,” as was Quasi Modo.<\/p>\n
