In a recent blog (nasc th\u00edos<\/strong>), we looked at flower terms that occur in movie titles, and checked out what these would be in Irish.\u00a0 \u00a0So we had some fun vocabulary, ranging from “filim\u00e9ala<\/strong>” to “g\u00e1ma-ghathanna<\/strong>” and some specific flowers like “n\u00f3in\u00edn\u00ed<\/strong>” and “poip\u00edn\u00ed<\/strong>,” as we worked through the translations of the titles. \u00a0\u00a0We also saw “ti\u00failip<\/strong>” used in two movie titles, once as a dog’s name (Mo Mhadra Ti\u00failip<\/strong>, 2009, le guth\u00fa le<\/strong> Christopher Plummer, Lynn Redgrave, agus Isabella Rossellini) and once in a more matter-of-fact way, in the title of an early travelogue about Holland (where else?) , An Ollainn in Aimsir na dTi\u00failip\u00ed<\/strong>, 1934, le James Fitzpatrick (scann\u00e1n gairid faisn\u00e9ise, ina shraith <\/strong>Traveltalks<\/em>, “Holland in Tulip Time”<\/em>).<\/p>\n

So for today’s blogpost, I thought it would be fun to look at some more dogs’ names and their owners. \u00a0\u00a0We’ll have a series of sentences in which the owner says the dog’s name.\u00a0 I’d love to have the dogs speaking for themselves, but unfortunately, they don’t have a cn\u00e1mh hi\u00f3ideach<\/strong>, the bone which enables us humans to speak.\u00a0 So for these sentences, the owners are speaking.\u00a0 Perhaps in a future blogpost, we can imagine the dogs speaking for themselves, in the first person, or should that be, first canine?<\/p>\n
