Al Negozio Di Casalinghi Posted by on Oct 12, 2017 in Italian Language

Today we’re going shopping in un negozio di casalinghi (a household goods store). Let’s see what we can find.

Cliente: Buongiorno!
Customer: Good morning!

Negoziante: Buongiorno Signora! Desidera?
Shopkeeper: Good morning Madam! How can I help you?

Customer: I need a change of parts for a moka coffee maker for three cups (Moka’s are measured in size by the number of cups that they make, every now and then you need to change la guarnizione = the rubber seal, and il filtro = the metal filter)

Negoziante: Vuole i ricambi originali o vanno bene quelli universali?
Shopkeeper: Do you want the original spare parts or will universal ones be okay?

Cliente: No, non importa. Mi dia quelli che costano meno.
Customer: No, it doesn’t matter. Give me the cheapest ones.

Negoziante: Ecco a lei. A posto così?
Shopkeeper: Here you are. Anything else?

Customer: I’d need a couple of rubber mats for the kitchen sink.

Negoziante: Che misura?
Shopkeeper: What size?

Cliente: Non ne ho idea … può mostrarmeli?
Customer: I’ve no idea … could you show me them?

Negoziante: Certamente!
Shopkeeper: Certainly! Here they are, there are rectangular ones like these, or square ones, in two sizes.

Cliente: Questi qui quadrati mi sembrano giusti. Che colori ci sono?
.Customer: These square ones look just right, What colours do you have?

Negoziante: Ci sono bianchi, gialli o celesti.
Shopkeeper: There’s white, yellow or light blue.

Cliente: Prendo questi gialli.
Customer: I’ll have these yellow ones. If they’re not the right size can I change them?

Negoziante: Naturalmente, basta che conservi lo scontrino.
Shopkeeper: Of course, just keep the receipt.

In the meantime the customer is looking around and notices a set of coffee cups:

Cliente: Belle queste tazzine da caffè … quanto vengono?
Customer: These coffee cups are nice … how much are they?

Shopkeeper: They’re 7 Euros for one cup and saucer, 38 Euros for the set of 6. It’s a very good brand, they’re Italian.

Cliente: C’è anche la zuccheriera?
Customer: Do you also have the sugar bowl?

Negoziante: Certamente, eccola. Viene 8 euro.
Shopkeeper: Certainly, here it is. It’s 8 Euros.

Customer: I was thinking of giving a coffee set for two people as a present.

Shopkeeper: In that case we’ve got this set with a classic floral pattern. It includes the tray, two cups and the sugar bowl.

Cliente: Carino, mi piace! Quanto viene?
Customer: Nice, I like it! How much is it?

Negoziante: 25 euro.
Negoziante: 25 Euros.

Cliente: Va bene, lo prendo. Mi può fare una confezione regalo?
Customer: OK, I’ll take it. Can you gift wrap it for me?

Negoziante: Senz’altro! … Allora, in totale sono 32 euro.
Shopkeeper: Of course! …  that’s 32 Euros in total.

Cliente: Ecco 35 euro.
Customer: Here’s 35 Euros.

Grazie e arrivederci.
Shopkeeper: Here’s your 3 Euros change. Make sure you keep the receipt in case you need to change the mats. Thanks and goodbye.

Cliente: Buona giornata.
Customer: Have a good day.

I hope you found this little dialogue useful, dear readers!

    Senz’altro! Soprattutto …..

reminding us of the many little words/phrases you have taught us over the past months. Graziemille!

  2. Donna:

    Nella photo.. sto=questo?

    • Serena:

      @Donna Salve Donna, salve Don!
“sto” è l’abbreviazione di “questo”, infatti dovrebbe essere scritto con l’apostrofo: ‘sto.
      Saluti da Serena

  3. Lesley Brennan:

  6. Chippy:

    Don (o Serena o Geoff)

    Cosa significa ‘meme’ per cortesia?

    • Don:

@Chippy Ah…si truduce la parola inglese “meme” che vuol dire:
“An image, video, piece of text, etc., typically humorous in nature, that is copied and spread rapidly by Internet users, often with slight variations.”

    • Serena:

      @Chippy Salve Chippy!
      ‘meme’ è una parola inglese!
      Saluti da Serena

  7. Peni Schwartz:

Buon giorno. Sometime back, I requested information about how to make a donation to support your website but received no reply. I noted shortly after that the “sound” portion of the website was not functioning and wondered if you ever received the message. Now I’m asking again: how can one make a donation? 😉

  8. Patricia:

L’ho trovato molto utile anch’io. La guarnizione: di solito dice gomma. Ma grazie per la parola giusto.
